I was ask to run my 2001 SS with SLP longtubes through Oregon D.E.Q. Today was the day and it passed without a problem. They opened the hood and took a look. Didn't do a visual from below. They were confused as to why I would want to run it through since there was obviously no kind of problem. So, for all of you thinking about longtubes in Oregon, don't worry about it, I'll keep all that HP to myself [Smile] [Smile] [Smile]

But are you running cats? Chances are if you do still have cats that you would pass. The "real" emission problem that headers have is that it moves the cat further down stream from the motor. Federal regs state with the newer vehicles that the "light off" the time from when you start the car and the cats start scrubbing the exhaust can only be so long. My guess is you wouldn't pass that test.... but as long as your car is nice and hot you'll be fine.

Yes, I am running cats. You are correct about the position of the cat. Technically you are in violation if you move from the stock cat position. That is why SLP sells the longtubes as "off road only". DEQ does not nor will they meter newer vehicles. They plug in, read the codes, and give a pass/fail on that basis only. So,you must role the dice. The high flow cats that SLP sells are 50 state certified. Hope this is of some help for those that have been thinking of running longtubes.

Hi Ken!

Thanks for going thru this. Hope you pass nextbyear. The real problem is that you are not supposed to move the stock location of the cats. You CAN replace them but they must be in a stock location, and long tubes don't allow for that.

They may pass right now, but I wonder about later ... would hate to have to chop it up due to new attention to details at DEQ (bastards of the 3rd variety ... those who really don't want what you have and don't want you to know they want it, but who are compelled to take it anyway by circumstances are the most dangerous kind ... the other two, those who want your chips but don't want you to know it and those who want your chips and who WANT you to know it ... are much less damgerous!).

Hope it is alright, but don't have a lot of confidence about it, .... unfortunately ...

VERY glad you got thru this time ... hope you do in 5 years!

- Greg

Cool that you passed. I am currious in your next time around if you'll pass. Either that or move to a county that doesn't test. Been a few years since I lived there but I thought Salem was exempt (or places outside PDX metro)..... so just get a P.O. Box in another county and your all good. [Cool]
