Hi there, pretty new to the board... Wondered if anyone has found (or makes) any decent fitting seat covers to protect the white leather in my 97 30th Anniversary? Seems that nothing works due to the seatbelt guide mounting location...I don't even care how "pretty" they are, i just want something that can be taken off and on easily to protect the seats from getting dirty/worn while driving. Someone should make some custom fit covers for our seats... maybe someone does...anyone have any ideas?

Teri made some for her SS. I am trying to see if my wife can make some custom covers. Maybe Teri could explain how hard they were made. [Smile]

I bought four large bath towels that matched the seats from the Fieldcrest/Cannon factory outlet (two for each front seat).

I overlapped and sewed them in a manner that made a big pocket out of them that slips over the seat back to protect the entire thing, tucks over the front of the seat bottom, and has an opening for the seat belt. The trick for coupes: Buy convertible seat belt guides so you can get the covers on and off quickly. The other option would be to Velcro the side of the cover, but be aware, the Velcro may wear on the seat material if you don't hide it well.

If anyone wants me to give you more specific directions or a demonstration of how to do it, bring 4 big bath towels with you to the Bowling Green event, and a bunch (20-30) large safety pins and I'll set them up for you. All you'll need to do is find someone to stich them when you get home.

I made a set for OBSSD, too. They aren't the fanciest covers, but they are great for protecting the seats.

30AnnySS, I have a pair of seat covers from California Car Cover on my tan leather seats. Unfortunatly they do not make them in white. Grey is available but thats up to you. The cover is waterproof, very form fitting and easy to put on and take off. Go to calcarcover.com then use 1202CH in the search box to learn more. Just for your information, one cover is $21.99, not a pair. I had to remove the plastic seat beat loop from the head rest to make the cover fit. I now use a seat belt cover to save the side of my neck. Once removed my seats look brand new. I highly recommend this seat cover!

Yeah, the towels I ended up buying were quite a bit larger than the ones you used. But they've been doing the job quite well for a year now. Thanks again! As for the convertible seatbelt guide...with the seatbelt coming from the roof, it likes to work its way through the slot on the top of they guide...pretty much every time I put the belt on and sometimes while I'm wearing it.

OK, what is the general feelings toward "factory style" clear plastic seat covers? Is there any change these could damage the leather by sticking/pulling off the color/etc? I have heard some people say, no, theyre fine, or the seats wouldnt come with them on from the factory, and i have also heard that they should be removed immediately for the potential sisasters mentioned above, and because it will dry out the leather. I have access to some clear plastic seat covers from new cars, but dont want to use em if they will damage my seats, as that pretty much defeats the purpose.

I used clear plastic(vinyl)on the driver's seat for a few months. Something bad eventually happened. The plastic started to mat itself to the leather. For that reason I removed the plastic. Fortunantly the leather was not damaged. It seems that the high interior temperature from hot days and the pressure of me sitting made the plastic want to become one with the leather. When the matted plastic became cold it could have been possible to pull small pieces of leather off the seat if someone attempted to remove the rigid plastic. The California Car Cover seat covers I use now have a non-stick underside. I have never had a problem with them sticking to the leather seats. I still remove the covers periodically to let the leather breath and to apply leather conditioner.

Thats exactly what i was afraid of... i just dont like the idea of having to remove the seatbelt guides to put on seatcovers... then you have 2 holes in the leather and the seatbelt cuts into your neck... I have no interest in putting a sheepskin cozie on my seatbelt either... looks like I'll just have to keep my clothes clean when i get in... or see about fabbing some with a velco closure on the backside maybe... thanks for the replies.

Maybe you could hold a seminar at BG for seat cover making! [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

As soon as I bought my 2002 SS in June of 2001, I went to Walmart and bought a set of Chevy bucket seat covers for $29. Yeh, they look like crap but they protect my seats. I've forgotten what my original seats look like as I only saw them for like one day before I covered them.

I actually did something like this. In my bird, I just removed the seatbelt piece, put the cloth covers on, and then re-attached the seatbelt bracket. Only takes a phillips screwdriver. Im not as familiar with the camaro interiors, but i am sure it can be done. This means they are a pain to take off, but i work in a machine shop, and get covered in grease and crap every day, so I prefer to keep my seatcovers clean.

Saddleman makes a reasonably looking (IMHO) vinyl seatcover, with built in lumbar supports, and I think they are $40 for a set. Mine lasted about a year, and Im looking into something less expensive. But then again, my seatcovers get abused. You can remove and re-apply the brackets to install the covers, but it just is not a quick and easy slip-cover type thing.

Firechicken, where are Saddleman covers from, or who distributes? Does anyone know where to see California car covers?

Teri, what works best for the seat belt sleeves by console? Did you use infants socks to slip cover the buckle part?

I haven't done the seat belt/console protection mod yet, but I remember reading that a piece of the non-hooked (the softer part) side of Velcro, stuck on the seat belt plastic will keep it from scratching your console. I think it was Jason Debler who posted it......searching.........

Ah......I finally found the thread:

FirstLast: Saddleman covers are available at Autozone. The last time I bought some, they were $20 a piece, or $30 for two of them (buy one get one half off). I havent seen them anywhere else than autozone. They come in all black, or black with a red insert, or black with a blue insert, or black with a red dragon emroidered on them (oh, yeah, baby, yeah).
