..I was down at the Fire Station last night checking out the equipment on one of the trucks and had a brainstorm of sort. We use these things called Vetter Airbags for vehicle accidents and extrication purposes. They're square, made of really heavy-duty rubber and come in various sizes...anywhere from about 8" x 8" to 30" x 30"...and they're just under a couple inches tall when deflated. They use compressed air to inflate, and we use them for everything from lifting cars off of victims to prying roofs up and doors open on accident vehicles. The point here is that the little bag will inflate 4-6". If you put this bag on a block and under the axle, you could easily lift the wheel off the ground with very little air pressure. This would eliminate trying to fit a hydraulic jack under your car, and would be really great for those with lowered vehicles. The downside is that these things are pretty expensive, as is everything that's marketed toward fire-rescue applications, but if there was enough interest in these things, we could probably get a great group purchase price directly from the manufacturer on the small size bag, which would easily tuck somewhere in your trunk and could be inflated with one of those little 12 volt compressors.
Would anyone out there be interested in something like this...let me know and I'll see what kind of deal we could get on them...
