I've had a 94' Trans Am for a few months. It has python security/automatic entry. When I got it, it all works fine. Then one day, I pressed the unlock button (one button on remote locks (and arms security) and press it again and it unlocks (and disarms security)). Now when I press it, it will lock, but when I press again, I hear the mechanism work, but it won't unlock the car. I can unlock from inside, but automatic unlock from outside does not work (even though I hear the sound inside likes its unlocking!). Any ideas?

Also, don't know if the problem is related but.... My dad has a 2001 Grand Pri. Now, when you press unlock button from inside, the back door will not unlock with it, it has to be done manually from inside. I can hear the mechanism working in the door when I press unlock, but it doesnt unlock from the outside, won't open at all from outside.

Any suggestions would be great!

I don't know much about electronics but could there be a short in the motor or possibly a bad fuse or connection.

Any idea how I could fix? I don't understand why it would lock but not unlock with the remote (and the automatic lock inside works fine!)

If this system came with the car I would go to a Chevy Dealer and have them diagnose it although maybe you have to consider that the remote may be faulty if it is unlocking from the inside.

If it was put in by an aftermarket dealer then have them check it out.

If you think it could be a fuse Iwould check to see where the alarm is wired in at and pull the fuse to check it. I would go that route first.

Sounds like either the lock actuator is bad or there is a piece of linkage that fell off.

That would affect both sides?

No, you more than likely would have maybe a bad relay or a poor connection in the circuit that has high resistance causing a lower current flow to the actuator.
