I have read several posts where some have problems w/ oil consumption and not
knowing where it is going. I might have a possible solution which is extremely
easy.
I had this problem and couldn't figure out for the life of me what was wrong.
The intake had come of a few times to see if it was leaking through the intake
ports w/ no concrete findings.
A few weeks ago I took my TB off to do some routine cleanup and get the oil gunk
off the back side of the throttle blades... This where it gets interesting.
I took the TB plate (top side fastened w/ alen screws) off and to my amazment I
found the flimsy rubber gasket had contoured itself to the two openings on the
TB and was soaked w/ oil.
For those who may not know what this is, it is a passage from the breather tube
to the front of the TB where the breather retrieves its source of air... to
"breath".
From what I figure there must of been a small vacuum leak which would suck the
rubber gasket into the passageway, blocking the breather tube airway and
creating a vaccum through the breather tube which would in turn could suck
multiple amounts of oil vapors straight into the intake.
My fix (and since I'm cheap.. well.. sorta ) I used a razor blade to cut the
contoured part of the rubber gasket away, but left enough to where it will
create a seal around the outside paramater of the cover.
It has been this way for a few weeks and my throttle blades are still clean as
well as the side of the TB.
This fix may not end the problems for everyone, but if you notice serious gunk
on your throttle blades as well as on the side of the TB where the breather
tube is then this fix could be your solution.
If you do not want to cut the rubber gasket then get one from the dealer. I
believe you have to get the entire TB kit which is around $15.
If you find this happening in your case then it is also a good idea to take the
TB off and clean all mating surfaces w/ brake cleaner and make sure your TB to
intake gasket is in good shape.
