I find that my head brushes up against the headliner and I must lean forward a little to get a comfortable view out of the windshield. The car would be a lot more pleasing to drive if I could get down about 2 inches lower in the seat. Has anyone out there found a way to get a lower seating position. This car has non power seats. Has anyone tried removing or lengthening the seat "springs"? Are lower seat rails available? Is there a GM solution to this problem?

Thanks any help is appreciated,

Jeff

Same here. I've got the power seat so its all the way down when I go to the track and have to wear a helmet. Then up a little for 'regular' drivin'.

Doin 'bout 80 an comin up on the MR2, with a Carrera on my tail.

From your sig, it looks like it may be a little late - but T-Tops buy you a little more headroom. If you've got an SS coming, it should already have the power seat.

I disagree. I sat in an F-body with power seats, and the seat distance from the floor to the seat was greater than with the non-power seats in my car. I can only suggest two things.

1) Recline your seat more. It's not the best solution, but it works for me. I'm 6'4" and I've not had problems w/ it. I prefer to be straight up, but I even have to recline the seat a bit more than I'd like in both my pickup and my fiancee's jeep.

2) Have a racing seat put in w/ a custom bracket - a professional installer might be able to fabricate a bracket that places the bottom of the seat lower to the floor of the car. Heck, it might be possible to use the stock seat with this. I don't know the feasibility, it's just an idea.

I got past the MR2 just before turn 10 and he didn't, and he caught up to me about half way down the straight, as we came up on other traffic. He was finally able to get around me after turn 2, though.

BTW, just for trivial interest, I recall the Corvette Spyder concept car a few years ago did this. I don't recall the exact year, but it was a modified C4 convertible where they chopped off almost HALF the windshield lengthwise, and then lowered the seats closer to the floorboard to compensate. It looked really cool, but I bet it was a pain to drive with a windshield about 12" high to look through.

Hardtop & T-top cars have the same distance when T-tops are in ... I thought that there was more room in T-tops cars but since the headliner in Hardtop cars is rasied (indented) as if it had t-tops headroom is the same (with t-tops in).

Power seat is an option on a SS.
