Help! I was talking to the shop that will be installing my 4:10 gears in my SS. The guy said that he does not recommend 4:10's becouse in his experience they all have failed even after proper break in. He said that the car just seems to have too much horse power for the small pinion gear, and customers have damaged them after the first hard use.
He recommends 3:74 as more reliable.
I know lots of you guys/gals have these so please let me know of your experiance.
I have all the parts ready to go on, including the TA and bolts etc. Also this shop has been recommended by my normal shop/mechanic as very good. They prep. Camaro's and Vettes for racing.
Thanks in advance for your help.

That is total BS... the most popular upgrade for f-body gears is 4.10s for an M6 and 3.73s for an A4.

I have 4.10s in my Hawk and love them. You probably wouldn't notice much of a difference going from 3.42s to 3.73s.

Has anyone had 4.10's installed in the San Diego area? If so, did they do a good job and what did they charge?

what part of san diego are you in?

I haven't found any good race shops around so I would suggest looking in poway off of poway road there are several transmission shops and various other shops in the same area.

Hi Collin,
I live in Sabre Springs, which is very close to Poway. Thanks for the suggestion.

4:10's are a popular first mod. As keRm says - it really wakes these cars up.

Rock and I both had ours done at SLP's shop in Troy, Michigan. No problems other than it's hard not to stand on it every time I drive it!

Do it!!
