GM does offer touch up paint, probably $5-7 for a little bottle of it. If the scratch is only in the clear coat then you can get it out without using touch up paint. It depends how deep it is and how big. Try 3M foam polishing pad or fine cut rubbing compound.

The brush is useless. It just leaves a big blob. There are sites that can decribe the best way to touch up your paint. I have tried a few and did a poor job so I won't pretend to be able to give good advice. I tried toothpicks and matchsticks and was not very good either way. It didn't matter how small an amount I tried to use. With a black car, this is a big problem for me. Good luck and sorry about the scratch.

I agree with ya dan. My scratch repair looks awful, but at least I didn't pay the $17 for the can.

wow, $17 huh? what a rip! I bought touch up paint for my '98 and it was only a few $ at the dealer. I have yet to buy any for my new car. Check around, it shouldn't be that much.

You know... before I'd try the paint scenario, I'd try and little rubbing compound made for clear coated vehicles. It may just take the scratch out, unless it's the daddy of all scratches, that is. If the compound does the trick, immediately replace the wax/zaino/turtle juice, or whatever protectant you use, on the car. Is the scratch through to the base coat/metal, or just in the clear/paint finish?

I got my touchup bottle for free from my dealer. I too have a black SS. I too am bad with the touchup. Said dealer alway's does it for me for free. However, the head of the body shop at the dealer is also a relative

I think I'd still be inclined to at least try the compound approach before dorking around with touch-up paint.
