Been wantin' a vette for a long time. Can't have both. Should I trade for a nev C5?

I've been tossing around the same exact thoughts...and came within $2K (wheelin' and dealin' two months ago) of trading for a Z06, but decided to wait a year or two. The Vette is probably the only car (with the possible exception of a Viper) that I would give up my f-body for. I love my Hawk, and around here, they're pretty rare, whereas C5 Vettes including the Z06 variety are fairly common, but the way I see it, do it only if you really like the Vette more than the f-body. Surprisingly, you give up something when you move from an f-body to a Vette, but of course you also gain a whole bunch too. Personally, I'm content to drive the Hawk for another year or two, and wait to see what '02 and '03 bring...

We're going to hold out for a couple of years and wait for the Z06's to come back on lease returns. That way, we'll still be able to keep our current cars (not that we ever get rid of anything, anyway!).

thats just what i did , ordered it 2 weeks ago, supposed to be here in 16weeks,(well see) once you drive the vette, the f-body just wont do anymore.my 2000 SS convertable is for sale if anyone wants one, jim

If you have a family the f-body is the way to go. A freind of mine has a c5 and two kids, can't take only one with him so he rarely gets to drive the vette.

This is the main reason I went with the SS... not to mention the fact that I had the only one in town (until a friend saw my wife dropping off the kids at their house last summer... they fell in love and now there are two SS's in town)
No Vette flaming here, but really... 15 grand more (about 50% more), a relative "dime-a-dozen" on the road, and no back seat... with kids, it's a no brainer.

I have not driven the Corvette, but I talked to a few folks who have driven both it and the SS. They say the 'vette is easier to drive because of the active handling system, but the SS is more fun, because it's actually you doing the driving.
The way I see it, the SS is 90% of the 'vette for 75% of the price. If you can afford it, and I can't, it's hard to beat the Corvette.

The C5 will only be around until 2003-2004. After that the new body style (C6) will come out. Following that is when Chevy is going to drop the hammer with the LS7 sometime in late 2004 to 2005. I would be interested in what the C6 looks like before I sell my '98 SS for a C5!
