Could you please let me know where the cheapest price is for The MTI lid and K&N Filter package. Clear or Carbon fiber. Which is better? I have a 2001 Camaro SS, Do I also need an extra filter with my 2001 SS. I heard they added this new filter to the airbox in 2001. Thanks...Rich

I could never understand the reasoning behind the clear lid. Why in hell would you want to look at the filter?!

The clear lid is for the lazy people who need to know when the filter gets dirty.

I bought it because it just looks different. If it becomes hard to keep clean, we'll get a different one, but for now the MTI lid is on there w/the K&N filter.

Harkens back to the "good old days" when we had chrome air filter housings and the open element filters.

I really like the look.

Cool looking engine compartment SS3816!!!

You must win lots of shows. That sure does look good with the Clear lid. It looks like you go through you're engine with a toothbrush I already ordered the Carbon Fiber Whisper Lid from Tbyrne Motorsports. I liked the look of the carbon fiber.

The dirt accumulates on the under side of the filter. Hope you are not gonna wait until it gets dirty on top! :O

SS3816, how did you prep your airbox before you painted it? I bought some paint today and want to paint my airbox this weekend.

Sheesh, it was a joke!

The REALLY lazy people don't bother changing the filter until they CAN see the dirt on top.

The first step is very crucial, if you don't do it you will sand all contaminates into the plastic...

steps:

1) Clean with Auto prep( Do it twice )
2) sand with 400 sand paper.
3) Clean with Auto prep again.
4) Spray with adhesion promoter.
5)Spray with Flexible Primer.
6)Sand primer with 600 sand paper
7) then paint it .. I used engine paint.

Follow Directions on all products!(dry times etc.)

Here is a list of the exact products that I purchased at my local pep boys.

1)Auto Prep made by Kean-Strip product #SW-362

2)BullDog Adhesion Promoter made by Klean-Strip Product #ETPO-123

3)Flexible Primer made by plasti-kote Part number 1892 Gray Primer

4) 400 & 600 Wet/Dry sand paper

New guy and new SS owner. Question is the clear lid as good as the whisper lid for HP, is the only difference clear vs color? I like the looks of all the cars I've seen on here.

There is no difference in performance as long as you get the darn factory one with the baffles off. The clear Whisper Lid works just as good as the Black or Graphite Look-a-like one by T Byrne Motorsports.

Thanks 2001ss.

Still would like to see the answer to the first question at the begining of the topic. Where is the best place to purchase one, hopefully on the web as I am about 100 miles from anywhere.

Sorry, the clear lid just doesn't do it for me.

Of course, that's why they sell our cars in more than one color too!
