Ok guys:
Ordered the Mobil 1 oil cap (P/N 12555685) but unless I'm wrong, I guess it doesn't fit the LT1. The cap is the same size outer diameter wise as the extender pipe that my stock filler cap fits into. So am I correct in assuming that the cap is only for the LS1? Does the LS1 have an extender pipe like the LT1 that the Mobil 1 cap fits into? And if the LS1 has an extender pipe, will it fit the LT1 valve cover?

Thanks for the help.

The cap fits my car...but I have an LS1. I'm almost positive I remember people saying it wont work on the LT1. I may be wrong though. Anyone else?

Ok, here's the scoop so far. Just came home from the weekly car show. Took the cap with me and had a guy try it on the LS1. Fits perfectly. Screwed right into the filler extension (plastic pipe screwed into the valve cover).

So now the next question. Does anyone know if the LS1 extension pipe will screw into the LT1 valve cover? (didn't think of asking him to un-screw his and try it on mine --dammit). Well, it nobody knows, or can try the swap to see if it fits, I'll check it out at next Fridays show and post answer here.

Today when I get home I am meeting up with my friend and his '95 Z28, I will check mine on his. I also have the LS1 with the Mobil 1 cap and label. He has been asking me about one for his car so we will test your theory. He also made a comment that the C4 Corvette might have had a Mobil 1 oil cap for the LT4, might we try that too? I will let ya'll know ASAP on the tube thing.

well, I think you have to use the LT4 valve cover to use the cap. The filler tubes are different and only the LT4 valve cover has the right filler tube

Well we will know soon. My freind ordered one from an LT4 Vette to find out. Even if it doesn't work it will be an item that will be sought after in only a couple of years, they are no longer made: they are out of production that is. Our dealer found another dealer that happens to have one in stock that is shipping it over. Good luck in finding one! It was also used on the '96 Grand Sport.

Derek C:
Got a question for you. Was at Chevy today and asked about the LT4 cap. They looked it up and said the part number for the LT4 was the same as for the LT1. I had them look up the 96 Grand Sport and they said that was the same as the LT1 too. They said the number changed in 1997 with the LS1. Could you provide the cap part number that your friend ordered?

This wouldn't be the first time that the parts department didn't know what they were talking about, but I'd like to know who is right and if there was a different cap. Thanks....

Mark:
What's not interchangable? We know that the LT1 and LS1 caps are not interchangable. What we don't know is:
1)if the LT1 and LT4 caps are the same (which according to Chevy they are)

2)if they're not the same, what the part number of the LT4 cap is, and if it is/was a Mobil 1 cap

3) If the Mobil 1 cap was available for the LT4, (or the 96 Grand Sport) why couldn't the parts wizards at Chevy find it? -or maybe I should have known the answer to that already!

LT1 and LT4 oil caps are not the same.My friends LT4 vette oil cap will not fit my LT1 oil filler tube. They are different and will not work without the LT4 valve covers.
