from the winter salt, my tips got crud all over them and the surface got real rough. what is the best way to get the shine back?

I used some stuff called jewelers rouge to polish mine. Can be found in a hardware store for < $2.00. It comes as a stick. If yer tips are still removable, get a cotton polishing wheel for a bench grinder, apply the jewelers rouge to the cotton wheel and buff away. It works & it's easy. If the tips won't come off do the same thing with a hand held grinder or polisher.
