I just recieved my build number and was preparing to order the new mat from slp for the shelf behind the rear seat, and join ssoa.
Friday night I'm on my way home and I stop at an intersection do to traffic and I get rear ended and knocked into a truck. I think my ss #2520 may be totaled. It also appears that neither of the other two drivers have insurance on the vehicles that they were operating. My car was approximately 16 days old and may be a total loss.
I now have to reconstruct an accident for myself, and I'm really wondering if my insurance company will try to cheat me out of something along the way.
Makes me wonder about the user name I've had for years.
All this time I've had it I would park it away from every other vehicle. Replaced the nice floor mats with rubber ones to catch dirt and water etc. Had an order ready to go for some Zaino. All of those protective measures seem silly now.
I will try to get a very accurate check on the wheelbase of the car today but it appears to be about 1 inch shorter on one side than the other.
Sad thing neither of those vehicles should have been on the highway as insurance is required in the state of TEXAS.

I'm very, very sorry to hear this. Hearing stuff like that really makes me worry...my SS is only a week old, and I can't even imagine how I would react if the worst happened. Knock on wood.
You always, always have to worry about the other guy...it's such a shame.
Good luck with the insurance, I hope they total it for ya.

That totally sucks, man, but don't get too down about. Look at the positives: 1. First and foremost, you weren't killed, 2. You were maimed, paralyzed, or otherwise seriously injured and 3. You can always buy another one. Hope the insurance claim works out well for you.

Sorry to hear about that, Wreckman. I truly feel for you! Although I have avoided wrecks with my SS's, I have totaled an S-10 (and almost got killed in the process). I got hit by a stolen Jeep Cherokee who broadsided me going 70mph. Obviously the driver had no insurance (since he was stealing cars for a living), but AAA paid me blue book for the truck and covered all my medical bills. Good Luck!

Hey.....I truly feel your pain. I got into an accident today and I am just truly grateful that my friend and I are okay. I know how much our cars are worth to us, but our lives are much more important. But, that still doesn't make it an easier pill to swallow. I hope things work out for you. Let me know what happens.

Thanks for all the positive wishes. Soon I will be taking my 70 yoa mother and myself to see an orthopedic surgeon. We are both rather sore but ambulatory, we are both wanting this to be minor injuries that take care of themselves or minor treatment.
The insurance company called me back a couple of times and seems to be cooperating with my wishes so far. That would be nice as all I want is to end up in the same position I was in prior to the accident.
Thanks everyone for the responses.
One question has anyone ever had a car totally destroyed that was that new and if so how much did the insurance company try to depreciate the car's value?

Sorry to hear about your loss, I hope all is well with you and your mom. Your insurarance company should replace your car without any hassel. Too new for them to depreciate it much if at all. Good luck.

Awfully sorry to hear about your misfortune. Here's my 2 cents worth, for what it's worth ....
1) CHANGE YOUR CALL SIGN! 2) You didn't say what insurance compnay you had or if you had uninsured motorist coverage (I assume you do). If you do, your insurance company will be dealing with you just as though you were a 3rd party ... i.e., you would be entitled to whatever bodily injury benefits would be payable to a 3rd party. This includes pain and suffering, etc. 3) Don't be too quick to sign a release and make sure you get a new car (nothing less) out of the deal -- in addition to some cash. 4) Keep in mind that whiplash injuries (hard to disprove and thus often the province of schlock ambulance-chasing attorneys) are nevertheless real ... and can make you miserable for years.
GOOD LUCK!

Dude, that sucks. Glad you are OK. My gf had a inicident happen to her recently. She totaled her her band new 2001 Cavalier. It didn't even have 2500 miles on it. I know it was just a Cavalier, but it was her first new car, and she was very proud of it. She broke her pelvis in the accident. She finally returned to work this week, but is still on crutches. She does have a shinny new car waiting for her to be able to work it's clutch though
Also, a few weeks before I got my SS I was rearended (for the second time) in my beatermobile (89 Buick Regal), by an old man in a truck. I was OK, but the whole time, I was thinking "thank god it wasn't my SS, or I would of probably gone nuts.

Hey Guys,
Most insurers offer a "depreciation waiver". It costs a little - usually $25 - $45 - but what it does is, waive depreciation on new vehicles for the first 30 months. So if it is stolen or totalled you get what you paid for it. Make sure that coveage is on your policies.

My call sign reflects my occupation, I reconstruct traffic accidents for insurance companies, lawyers, and individuals. As of this time my insurance company is doing everything they can do legally to protect their interest instead of mine. As of this moment they will probably save themselves one to three thousand dollars on this claim.
I will be the one that comes up short the amount they save. I will not at this time mention that companies name. This treatment that I am recieving from them will eventually cost them my business. To the best of my recollection they have not had $1000.00 worth of claims charged to my insurance. I have my home, my Mother's home, three cars, and a boat insured with them. The annual premiums are in the $5000.00 range. That claim history goes back about 20 years. I am now getting quotes from other companies.
It is ironic that I am now going through this as I have helped companies with fraudulent claims and inflated claims in the past. I have also worked on cases that have gotten large settlements for plaintiffs that had to file legal action against insurance companies. It's kind of like breaking down while driving a tow truck.
Thanks for all the good wishes and support, it is nice to have all of these virtual friends. I have ordered a new car. The insurance company did not total my car but said they would pay for the repair. I took the cash out they pay me for the damage, I then sold my car, what was left of it to a salvage broker. The total of the two is nearly the cost of the car. Approx. $800.00 short. I think that my company should have totaled the car, and then sold it for salvage they may have been able to do better than me in selling it and actually come out better. After the check arrived for the property damage they decided that they would no longer pay for my rental car. This will save them some money depending on how long it takes for my car to come in.
It is with in the law for them to do that as I understand it. It is just poor business sense for them to do so. If all things remain the same (insurance history)they would have no claims in the next 20 years and recieve about 100,000 in insurance premiums. Kind of makes that one to three thousand dollar savings look dumb. Also they can get a judgement against the other parties to recover their loss. I recently recieved information that one of the parties may have some money in a trust that they could recover. At this point I will wish them luck in finding it as I will not do anything now to protect their intrest in this case.
Sorry for the giant post everyone, and thanks again for all of your support.

Wreckman,I'm always sorry to hear stories like this. Glad to hear you and your Mom are OK. I thought I was the only one. In 1985, my wife and I were on our way home from dinner at a friends house. I left work early and with the sun blazing that day, I took out the 69 RS/SS show car. She meet me there in our "NEW" 85 Iroc. On the way home, her following me, a 74 LTD started messing with us. At about 60 MPM, he side swiped me. Because of that and the skid, My "WIFE" rear ended me. The 69 being higher in the back and the 85 nose being lower, well let's just say the hood on the 85 folded in half against the windsheild and my rear tire marks were on her roof. I still don't know how she didn't roll me. Then, into on coming traffic. Thanked "you know who" many times there was no one coming the other way. I have never heard a sound like that in my life, and never want to again. We both walked away. I stood in the street and thought I was in a movie, I couldn't beleive what just happened. OH, and yes, the other guy drove away. My brother I hunted for him for a week. We finally found him and in court, "Suprize" NO insurance. I still know where he lives. Everything worked out OK. They should have totaled the 85. I fixed the 69 and still have it.
Best wishes.

I thought I had some bad luck, to have two of them smashed by an uninsured driver is just unthinkable. It appears that the only things I will be out do to the crash will be money and that my mother and myself will be ok after a while.
