Don't over analyze this. I'm just passing this along from Scott. -Teri
"Recently, I have had many e-mails and telephone calls referring to rumors that GM would spin Corvette off into a separate francise........also, the same with Camaro.
Corvette has been a highly successful Chevrolet Brand for almost 50 years......and the Camaro for nearly 35 years. General Motors has no plans whatsoever to move these brands from Chevrolet into another francise.
I suspect that this rumor may have started following discussions around the new Cadillac-Saab alignment in Europe."

Yes, but what are they gonna say! They aren't gonna announce this thing on the Press' schedule... The story sounded like something that might solve a bunch of problems. 1) How to migrate the Camaro to a smaller, lighter body style, which would take a V-6 as a base engine, but still leave room for the V-8 as an option...plus have the independent suspension. 2) A way to bring in new engines...with new technology...DOHC and multi valves and so on...it would mean being seen as on or closer to the cutting edge for those who think that is the way to go...people who usually buy German or Japanese... 3) It re-invents a line that has been losing sales to the Mustang for some time. We may not see it as something that has to be changed, but the primary influence in car purchases these days is female, and for some reason females seem to pick the Mustang first. There is also the giant sales leap SUV's have taken, but there may be a slower time for those in the future, if gas prices continue to increase, or the government decides to tax the SUV's differently. Or if the recession goes on for very long!

Camaro has always been the baby brother of Corvette and I myself have wondered how GM plans to keep the two cars from getting too close to one another in the long term.
I suppose it all depends on how GM views Corvette as it relates to Chevrolet. All GM "divisions" are simply marketing organizations. So the questions is: what kind of impact will pulling Corvette out of Chevrolet's marketing portfolio do to the brand from a marketing standpoint? Corvette carries a lot of weight with and brings a lot of prestige to the Chevrolet brand, so I can't possibly believe GM would change that. Then again, Chevrolet is the entry-level brand. And having the ultimate performance car in the entry-level brand seems a bit odd. But it's been that way for a loooooooong time ...
Getting Corvette out of the way and allowing the Camaro to evolve with more exotic technology (multi-valve, multi-cam engines, for example) would be great. However, I feel that even if Corvette moves to it's own line, GM will still consider it the ultimate vehicle and would prevent other "divisions" from surpassing that platform. It seems that creating anything even close to Corvette in terms of performance has been taboo within the General.
I'll be really interested to see how close the Cadillac CLR is to the C5 performance-wise.

Really, what Scott Settlemire has already said is the truth. His statement at the top of this thread is a direct quote from him. Don't try and read too much into it. There's nothing hidden between the lines.
