As I pulled on base this morning (Navy base) the gate guard stopped me and had a look at my car. He then told me he used to own "my" car. Not one that looked like it but the very same car. Kewl, I think, until he tells me when he sold it the car had 22,000 miles on it. When I bought this car it had 7,860 on it! Anyone know if there is a way to turn back the odometer. If so is there anyway I can confirm that mine has not been rolled back.

You can go to www.carfax.com and order a report for your car that will show the mileage every time it was registered/inpsected. It'll cost you $15 but well worth it in my opinon.

I'll have to talk to him again and find out why he is so certain it's the same one. My guess would be that the odometer is run by the onboard computer... And that would make it almost imposible to rollback.

As far as Carfax.com That would work if the dealer rolled it back. But I'm the second owner I think. Maybe I will go through them though. That would tell me if I'm the second owner or not.

yep I think your right and I think its in the gauge custer itself so buying a new gauge cluster would in effect "roll back" the od.

Good points... There is the crease starting to show on the drivers seat and the pedals do show a little wear... But the car has 17,000 miles on it now so I don't know if it's normal wear.

The PCM controls the odometer, so if you get a new gage cluster that would NOT effect the mileage. Rolling back the odometer is next to impossible to roll back with digital gages... and if I remeber right in 97 is when they started the digi gages in the F cars.

Kuma... your car does have a digi gage right? If so then don't worry about the milage being rolled back... the gate gaurd probably had a Z that looked identical to yours either that or he "wants" you to think more of him by saying he used to own one.

Just my .02

Man! I could just hug you! In a macho athletic kind of way, not a prison movie kind of way!

Yes I have the digital odometer! That's a load off my mind. I'll tell ya.
