Canadians, for example, buy twice as many mini-vans and half as many SUVs as Americans.....

I guess they're smart enough to realize that you don't need a four wheel drive, off-road vehicle that gets 14 MPG to go to the supermarket!

We don't dream big because we remember what our roads are like in the spring.

Your going to have fun with this post. Here is a list of my boring cars. Besides my 99SS conv.[which is number 221 of 222 in Canada for 99] my daily driver is a 1981 Cordoba with the cabriolet roof option [for those that don't understand french, it looks like a real conv.] that I bought new. I've also had a 1967 Dodge R/T, a 1970 Charger R/T, a 1973 Corvette with a 454, and a few other daily drivers over the years. My dream car would be a Viper.

--------------------
99SS, C221, Black Convertible, Neutral top and neutral leather, 6spd.,B/M shifter, all power, CD/radio, traction control, loud mouth, SLP strut tower brace, K&N Filter, dyno'd at 312.6 hp. and 321.8 torque at 122.97 mph and 12.7 fuel/air ratio with the above mods. I've just installed SLP y-pipe, lid, and bellows. Dec. 2003, installed Don Goetz SFC,s. February 2004 I added white gauges.

There are way more factors than us being conservative ...
¥ Annual cost of running a vehicle vs. after tax income compared to the U.S.
¥ Exposure to "exotic" vehicles ... the only way I knew a Camaro SS even existed was through the SLP message board ... dealers would respond with a blank stare when they heard "SS" "Firehawk" & "SLP" and that's not in the "exotic" league. We don't even see the cars around here that others dream of.
¥ Source of the survey. CAA members are not necessarily an accurate sampling of the Canadian driver and with the proliferation of similar "roadside assistance" programs on new cars the members "may" be people prone to frugalness and keeping vehicles longer than 3 years ... hardly the crowd that would dream of Ferrari's.
¥ Weather, poor roads and very few places to properly "exercise" thoroughbreds.

The label "practical" would probably fit better than "conservative".

Hey poSSum,

I actually didn't think of that. I guess CAA clients do tend to be the older conservative type. That right there says alot a-boot the slant of the facts in the report. IMO
