I changed it at 500 miles and then by the oil life monitor. Many suggest to stick to a 3000 mile interval.

Every 3000 miles is a good plan. Yes synthetic should last longer, but I would rahter get the dirty oil out, and be safe rather than sorry.

I worked at a vehicle maintenance center for 3 years. I have boggle this idea in my mind forever. After talking to many people and doing some reading on some behind the scenes product information, I agree with all of these people. The 500 miles for the first oil change is a great idea, because many manufacturers consider this the break in period of their enginges. The synthetic oil doen't break down like conventional oil, but it still gets dirty. I don't care for the oil life monitors, I would rather change mine every 2000-3000 miles (depending on how hard I drove the car and what conditions; dusty, etc) and know that I had good oil in there lubing away my LS1.
