This new GM engine uses some of the most advanced technology available today. Check these features out:
Aluminum Block
Aluminum Head
Nodular Iron Crankshaft
Powdered Metal rods
Hypereutectic Full-Floating Pistons
Double Overhead Cams
Four Valves per Cylinder
10:1 Compression
Hemispherically Shaped Combustion Chambers with Centrally Located Spark Plug
Sequential Electronic Fuel Injection
Coil on Plug Ignition
Variable Valve Timing
Electronic Throttle Control (Fly-by-wire)
1.07 Horsepower per Cubic Inch
…and Twin Turbos will soon be available for this engine

Guess what new GM vehicle will have the honor of being offered with this engine…

…it's the new trailblazer, and the engine is GMs new 4200 Inline Six. This engine is already being offered in a 302 cubic inch 500 hp version for racing applications.

…think about this engine and the next generation Camaro and Firebird…

…does it make you go hmmmmmmm???

Surely you haven't forgotten about the Buick GNs and GNXs, the Firebird TTA, the Typhoon and the Syclone??? Those were all 11-12 second (6 cylinder) machines pretty much out of the box. With a little waste gate tweaking, you could get them into the 10's. Think about the twin turbo version of this in a car that weighed in the 2800-3100 pound range. Calculate the power-to-weight ratio with a 375-400 hp motor...

Can you spell YEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAA...

...not to mention the fun you'd have with the Cobra owners...

...it's just a little 6...AND IT STILL KICKS YOUR @$$...

Sounds like a sweet piece but it seems a little weak on torque ... 275 ft/lbs. The Envoy with "my name on it" is built and invoiced and should arrive mid-May. It's got the 4.10 gears so I'm curious to see how it feels.

I wonder if bringing the G-tech to the test drive will raise any eyebrows

One of my buddies works in the GM plant where they make the inline 6 (in Flint). He said they had to electronically tone down the motor because it was tearing up so many transmissions during testing. You could have a lot of fun with this motor

I don't want to join the six-cylinder club, or the rice burner club. I would rather have the gas guzzling V8 and hear it roar. It doesn't matter what exhaust you put on a six-cylinder, it still doesn't sound like an eight.

One of the problems with turbos is the heat generated and not disapated when the engine is stopped. Some turbo drivers, particularly truck drivers, leave the engine running for about 5 minutes before turninig it off, to cool it down.
If the turbo is stopped at high running temps, the bearings burn out.
When I bought my 3Gen IROC in '86, the other choice was the Buick GN...when I rolled the lease on the IROC after 3 years, the dealer took the car back, no problem, and tore up the remainder of the term...I submit, that would not have happened with the buick, because it was a turbo!
Turbos produce more HP from smaller engines, but they also create maintenance problems.

...I'm sure that most all of us here, given the choice, would pick the rwd V8 over the RWD 6 hands down, but what if there was no V8 offered...now the choice becomes a rwd 6 or a fwd 6 or 4...

...that inline 6 doesn't look so bad now does it...

I think Jimbo's right...this kind of engine technology WILL be the basis for the next Camaro and Firebird...that's one of the pieces of the puzzle needed to create more sales...smaller, lighter, high tech and styled to appeal to more females.
