A little backround here, my clutch pedal was starting to get a strange feel in for the past couple of days. It sorta creaked and was a little more dificult than usaual. So driving around yesterday and all of a sudden "THWANG" this 1/2 inch black spring flew out from under the dash. It's a black spring with 3 coils in it and the last coil comes out to a bent piece that looks like it should latch on to something. Now the pedal feel sooooo much better. Has a linear feel to it not like before where it got harder to push as the clutch got closer to the floor. My question is what is this spring, what does it do and do I need it. The clutch doesn't seem to be slipping and the engagment is still the same?

Hi there! It doesn't sound like you should be driving anywhere 'till you check out what happened. For a time, I thought my clutch was funny until I talked with a Chevy service manager and he told me not to worry...that what I was experiencing sounded normal to him...anyway...I'd be checking in with the techs at my Chevy dealer...
