At 9:00 this morning, sitting in my office directly across from the World trade center - I heard a terrible crash, the building shook, and a rain of burning debris came down, including pieces the size of tractor trailers. As I watched the people evacuating the tower from my window, a second crash. We evacuated the building and I made my way over to the river, stepping over body parts and watching people jump from the upper floors of the tower. I boarded a Ferry, and watched as the tower crumbled. The Plume of dust smoke and debris raced through the streets towards us and the captain of the boat quickly pulled way as we raced across the river ahead of it.

It will never be the same.

Richard, if you need to or want to, you can call me at work today. (301)428-2700
I know that this will be a difficult time for many. I, too, have friends up in that area. We're still trying to get a head count of the workers. I should know this morning.

Glad to hear you are safe Richard.

My brother on Church St... he walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and hopped a train to our mother's.

I spoke to two co-workers last night who are in 140 West St... the building adjacent to 7 WTC. They got home safe.

My friend'ss mom was in 1 WTC, she got out ok too.

I have two softball teammates that are firemen downtown... I havent had the heart to call and check on them yet. I hope they were off when this happened.

Unreal.

That's what insurance is for......the plastic & metal is replaceable......human life isn't.

I'm glad to hear that you are still with us. It's reassuring to see your post and that you are o.k.

Hang in there.......our thoughts are with you and everyone touched by this event.

Richard, good to hear that you made it, You say in your post that "it will never be the same", and I'm sure you will not be the same as well. To witness what you saw can really change ones views on life. Keep the faith and hug your family....

Your words and thoughts mean a great a deal to me. I remain virtually speechless.

My job now is to restore some infrastructure for my company, and I've been at it virtually non stop from a few hours after the tragedy. Every few minutes though, I stop to reflect, yet I am not able to even think about it, so I push on.

Odd how this "family" of freinds means so much to me. Is it that we share a passion and in doing so, share more than just an interest?

I do know I'm grateful.

Thanks.

Rich

Strange but watching some of the rescue workers and the sight of people being assisted away from the site...and the body bags being brought out while firefighters keep digging...hoping for a miracle, I'm reminded of some of the well known phrases Winston Churchill used during the Second World War...for instance...never have so many (those helped) owed so much to so few (those valiant firefighters!)...
Sometimes it takes the worst human behavior to bring out the best human behavior.

Man, you gave me goosebumps - just how close you were.

I still can't really fathom the enormity of it. I think emotionally we are drained.

May God bless us all.
