Earlier in the year, I contacted a car artist to see what he could do for the SSOA in terms of a group purchase for customized drawings of our SS's. He came up with a few ideas and base photos, along with a tier of prices. I've spent quite a bit of time on this one and would really like to see it be a success.
Here's an example of some unfinished drawings, but will give you an idea.
The standard car drawing will be 8.5" x 11", high gloss, full color print, with solid laminated finish. Or you can request it at a trimmed 11" x 17" size for no extra charge. It is the exactly the same as the 8.5" x 11" just larger and IS also laminated. "Trimmed" just means that any excess bordering is chopped off to fit the lamination nicely on the larger page. They are of the same finish and quality, just different in size.
The price starts out around $45, but if we can get 106 people interested, it drops to $21.50 each.
The idea is that you can choose a stock SS:
*An LT1 ('96/'97) or LS1 (98+) Camaro SS. *Hardtop, T-Top or Convertible. *Choice of body color and/or top where applicable. *5 or 10-spoke wheels in silver, chrome or Anniversary Colors. *Anniversary stripes *SS or stock Camaro grille. *Preferred view: Driver's side quarter or Passenger side quarter
3 backgrounds are offered - city, forest, and open road.... Also if you have any special requests which are minor, like a sunset, or something specific, we'll see what can be done.
A picture of your car will need to accompany each order, so start looking for pics!
Price will range between $21.50 and $45 depending on how many orders are placed. i.e. 1-6 = $45.00 each 1-30 = $40.00 each 1-55 = $37.00 each 1-80 = $32.00 each 1-105 = $26.50 each 106+ = $21.50 each
Other customizations like non-stock wheels or striping, etc., will be charged a little more.
Obviously, the more orders we can generate, the better price we'll get.
The key here is we need to get the base pictures done first (one each of an LT1 and LS1 in every body style) in order to bring the cost of the rest of the group down. The pricing is tiered so the initial base drawings are absorbed and everyone gets a better price.
Please post here if you are interested. I'll email people in the SSOA who don't particpate on the forum to see if I can generate some interest. The SSOA makes NO money on this....it's just another one of those perks of being a member that we can work w/vendors to get you a better price on something.

Sounds good to me Teri. All I ask is that you keep me informed regarding where to send what and when it needs to be there. Posts: 1 | Registered: Nov 2001

How do you find the time to do all the things you do around here? Seems like you take pretty good care of us.
I'd be interested in getting one of these as long as I could get it with red side view mirrors instead of black. Just keep us informed as far as how to order. As far as collecting the money goes, maybe wait a few days to see how the response is so you know how much to ask for?
Wish I could help you design an order form, but I wouldn't know HTML from shineola!

Jeff, The drawing will look as close to your car as possible. I have an area on the order form for body colored mirrors or black (same goes for the top).

I can help you with the pull down menu buttons in html. I also want to get a picture done. Was wondering how close he can actually match the car as far as custom billet grill, windshield banner, etc. And also, I know you use PayPal for memberships now, maybe you can collect the midrange price for these through pay pal and just hold the money in there until you pay for the order. If you get more then you thought and the price is cheaper, you can just refund back through paypal. Just a thought.

Thanks for the help offer....I'll take you up on that one! I'll email the Word.doc I created with form fields/pull downs and see what you can do w/it.
The PayPal thing is a good idea. The SSOA has an account. As long as there isn't a fee for refunding $$, that's a possibility. We can't take it as payment though because the SSOA can't eat the fees and it's not legal to add it to the cost of the item.

For the money thing ... how about pre-orders without $$ ... then deduct about 20% from the quantity for "changed minds" and collect based on the revised total.
Also, I don't see why the SSOA couldn't make a buck or two on each to offset any fees that may end up being incurred.

Let me know if any of you have questions. I really want to see us get our base 6 drawings lined up so we can get started on this. So far, we have: LS1 Convertible - HTWLSS LS1 T-Top - agmSS LS1 Hardtop - NATESS LT1 T-Top - kyraptor
All we need is someone to step forward with an LT1 Hardtop and an LT1 Convertible and we'll have our 6 base drawings.
I have payment & shipping costs from Vicky at Cydonia Press:
"Payment would have to be by check or money order, because unfortunately we aren't currently accepting credit cards. . . . As for postage, it will be $4.00 (8.5 x 11) and $4.50 (11 x 17) for each individual print that is shipped separately, to each customer's address. (It'll be priority mail and can be tracked.) -Vicky"

Well, we're up to around 20. That has us in the $40 range.
If we can get more people, the cost will go down.
We're developing the order form and when it's done will send it out to everyone. We'll have a final cost when enough people show interest and submit their money.
Stay tuned!

I haven't yet because I'm trying to gauge the interest for SSOA members and I don't have the order form ready yet.

Are you going to wait for a specific number of people? or just set a cutoff time?

With nearly 600 members in the SSOA, I'd like to see it get closer to the $21.50 price. That would need 106 orders. With the approximate $4.50 shipping, it would be around $26. Not bad for custom artwork.
I'll slowly keep working on the order process and will post it online and get it emailed to the membership when it's ready.
