I am trying to help a friend change a heater core in his 95 Mitsubishi 300 GT VR4. I have to get this rice out of my garage. My poor babies are out in the cold tonight because we didn't finish the job today.
We have the whole dash out of the car. I am not sure what needs to be taken apart to get out the heater core. If anyone knows, great. We are going to get back at it tomorrow. I even had to drive him home to get him out of here. Why oh why do I do these things?

Would you mind asking him dear?? I am familiar with all the parts. The blower motor, the evacuater, etc. I just need ot know if there are any tricks I need to know to get the old one out. Thanks darling!

Dan, If you're still having trouble w/it on Monday, call Steve at the shop at 503-635-8252 and he'll fax you a diagram from AllData. (For future reference, you can call him any weekday for this kind of thing.) He gets there by 8am, our time.

Thanks Teri. WE finished the job. We had to take out the entire dash, center console, center brace, drop the sterring wheel, remove the evaporator and the heater box. Once we got all that out, it took about 30 seconds to swap the heater core. Then put it all back together. It works!! Wow, maybe I'll be a mechanic.
Nawww, I take to long and I am way to picky. I made him clean up his shoddy radio wiring job and we remounted his boost gauge and cleaned up all that wiring. He wanted help and asked a f-body owner to help. We couldn't have him leaving that messy stuff around his car.
My babies are back in the garage where they belong! I'm just happy they didn't catch cold out there in the frost.

Sounds like the time I helped a friend change a clutch in a TR6 in the driveway - now that was treat!

Must be a really good friend!! I can't imagine you allowing such a thing anywhere near your babies let alone in your garage!!

Hey Dan, I just looked up the labor time to replace that heater core in the mitsubishi. Flat rate time is 5.9 hours. My guess is from your description that it took you guys longer than that (lets see, two guys, two days, eight hours a day................hmmmm, that comes to approx 32 hrs). Somehow I don't think you'd make very good money as a mechanic!!!!!!! LOL! Just kidding, but I wish you would have contacted me sooner, as I could have at least given you some info. Next time you need help, just call. I'll send whatever you need, even if its not a "RICER"!!!!!!!! Steve H.

Ha ha!! It took this to get you post ehh!! Good to hear from you. Actually it took us about about 24 man hrs. Still a long time. But I had o take the time to write on a piece of tape each bolt we took out and to label every connector we took off. I am surely a rookie at that type of thing. It was fun though!! I would do it again. If I had to do another Mitsu heater core I could do in in half the time. It takes more time to figure out what has to be done than it does to do it.
