I recall reading a GM TSB here a number of months ago regarding LS1 excessive oil consumption due to "high reving" resulting in premature worn rings. Anybody have that problem? I haven't seen it in mine yet, but was wondering if anybody has experienced this and how widespread a problem it may be.
ALso, any problems with power window motors? My passenger side seems to be slowing down....
How about the stock disc brakes?
Any other patterns I should be keeping an eye out for?
I appologize if these have been recent topics, as I have not been here often enough (Hope to change that). Thanks in advance.

The consensus amongst owners that I have talked to is that the high rev, low load causing oil consumption is not true. There is a problem but it is not as big as every one initially thought. My LS1 in my 99 SS doesn't use any oil at all. It has 34K miles on it. The LS6 in my 01 Z06 is using about 1 Qt per 800-1000 miles. I am concerned about that.
As for brakes, some people seem to have warping problems in the front. I did in mine and I was very careful with them. I went to cryogenically treated rotors from Carbotech (shameless plug) and have had no problem for around 20K miles and that includes track days on a road course.
Power window motors seem to be a problem for a lot of people as well. Mine have not been a problem.
Hope that helps. Ask anything, we have been quiet so no recent topics have been answered!! Glad to have you back.

Well, I just bought a new 2001 SS in October and about a week ago my low oil light came on. I only have 2700 miles on the entire car. Okay, so I ride it a bit fast, and I guess I revs. Is this normal? I just had a new oil/filter change, so it's fine now, but should I be worried that I didn't even go 3000 miles and needed more oil? Your opinion is greatly appreciated.

I would keep an eye on it. Many times as the miles grow and the rings seat, the problem gets less severe or goes away. In any case, one qt in 2700 miles would not be considered "excessive".
Good luck.

My 2000 SS uses about 1 qt every 2500 miles. It's done this since it was new and now has 16,500 mi on it. It's hard to say how much this has changed over time, but I think it's imporoved somewhat.
My passenger side power window is SLOW! It always has been, but in the last 6 months it seems even worse. The drivers side works great. One of these days I'll decide it's bad enough to warrent letting the dealership take it apart.

I have had a bit of experience with all 3 of these issues.
Oil consumption - many of us have cars that consume oil. As mentioned, it differs and it is usually not considered "excessive" by GM. I don't necessarily like the fact that sometimes, my car will be a half quart low every 2000-3000 miles. However, I know it is a known problem and I just pour in a little more Mobil 1.
Window motors - My drivers side window worked great then slowly began to die. It got to the point where it would die when it would get hot in the summer afternoons. I took it in and had it replaced and it works great. Now the passenger side is a little slower than the drivers side but hopefully it will be OK.
Brakes - The rotors on our cars are notoriously bad bad bad. I had them go out on my '98. On my '00, they started to shake a little at about 14,000 miles. I had them turn the rotors and they seem to be ok a few thousand miles later however I am watching them like a hawk. I will definitely take them in if it happens again and if they gimme a hard time I will replace them altogether with something a little more sturdy.
Other than that, you may want to keep an eye on the rear end. Some have had problems with pinion seals, other minor leaks, or entire blow outs altogether.
Good questions BTW ...

Whoever said you couldn't run away from your problems obviously wasn't driving an SS.

This leads me to another quick poll:
I notice a slight "clicking" sound coming from the rear-end when the clutch is depressed and making a turn... it is more pronounced while making left turns than right. Anybody experience this? Is it a warning sign I ought to heed while the beast is stil under warranty? (I don't like anybody messing with the beast besides me, but maybe this could be something serious?) Thanks.
