Hey all..well, I'm devoting some of my tax return check towards my first mod to my 2001 SS. The SS is stock and has no SLP options already added. I'm thinking about doing the air intake first since it is cheap and easy to do. I know pretty much nothing about cars, haha, and was wondering if going for the new air induction package, and the air box lid was a good start from SLP's website (www.splonline.com) and I was also thinking about buying a new filter and maybe the MAF. Anything else I shoudl know before ordering? Should I be able to do this myself or should I have my dealer install it for me. I'd love to hear your comments and such, it will greatly help. Thanks!!

Ditto. More air is good. Do the air box and fliter. SLP is good so you can't go wrong with them. When you get over that one, exhaust will be next. Get the stuff and look it over and see how easy it is to do, then like DaddySS says, we are here to help and will be happy to.

Most of us don't highly recommend you have your dealer do ANYTHING on your car, just because they usually don't know what to do or how, and they always seem to mess up something!! I recommend you do the air box lid,SLP cold air induction kit(ask OBSSD on how to do that one), and K&N filter, and then the exhaust system like DanA said. Personally, I don't think I would spend the money on the MAF sensor unless you had other major mods like heads and cam first(IMO). If you need any help, any of us would be glad to do so, and I know OBSSD has pictures of the install process.

As for SLP's new OEM air induction, I believe they require you to have one of their optional exhausts (dual dual or center mount). But for half the cost, you could get the aftermarket lid from SLP performance parts. And you have a few choices if you want a washable filter: Holley Powershot, K&N (not an exact fit and requires an additional gasket), and I think I remember seeing a washable Donaldson filter in the new SLP catalog (Steve could probably verify that since it was his catalog). The cold air induction may be a bit more work than you want to undertake since it requires cutting the bottom of your air box and the baffle underneath it.
As for pictures...I haven't finished the work on my web site but the pictures are there if you want to look at them. I didn't take any of the air lid install and I didn't take many of the cold air induction install because it was snowing and we (da Wrench and I) wanted to get out of there before too much accumulated. But here's what I do have...

Okay, so i'm thinking about going for the SLP air box lid....and it looks like I have to cut something? Does it come with instructions, and such? And the K&N filter on SLP's website, will that fit perfectly or do I have to get something else with that - Just wondering..also, I am thinking about that STB for the front, what is the difference between that and the front sway bar..which is better. Help is, as always, greatly appreciated. Thanks all!

For the SLP air lid, you don't have to cut a thing. Here are some good instructions on Install University (I do recommend buying the extra IAT sensor and grommet from your dealer...they just make the install go that much easier). I'm pretty sure the K&N filter will come with the extra gasket (the Holley filter fits perfect and doesn't need one).
The STB bolts directly to the tops of the shock towers whereas the sway bar attaches to the suspension on the underside. I wouldn't bother replacing the stock sway bar unless you make other changes to the suspension.
