Hello everyone! I was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice about this problem that just seemed to crop up.
I'm driving on the freeway and then suddenly it seems like I have a lot less power. This happens randomly, lasts for about 5 minutes, and then goes away. It has happened about 4 times now, twice on one of the trips. The car is warmed up during this time and I don't notice anything else prior to or after the event. It just seems like a loss of power. I can step on the gas and the RPMs climb without a substantial increase in speed. I don't loose complete power and I don't slow down; just that if I try to pass somebody, it feels like I have about 300 horses less.
Am I misfiring or did one of the cylinders stop firing? I didn't hear any sounds or popping to indicate a misfire. Could a spark plug have come loose or wire get frayed? I didn't notice anything when I opened up the engine bay, but since it is a transient problem, a loose wire could be plausible. Suggestions?? Anything would help! Thanks in advance!

Do you have an automatic? If so, and you're increasing RPM without going any where, I'd suggest the problem is in the tranny somewhere or the tourque converter.

If its a stickshift, sounds like a slipping clutch. If its an automatic, sounds like an internal trans problem. The engine is reving , but the vehicle speed is not increasing. Thats showing that the drive power is getting lost due to slippage someplace in the transmission area. You may have to go to a transmission shop, and have them scan the bcm for the trans to check its operation (if its an auto).

I'm sorry, I forgot to post the fact that my SS is an A4. So, it may be a tranny problem. I'll definitely have them check that out. Thanks!
Also, how often does the fuel filter have to be replaced? I don't recall the last time I did that.
Thanks again!
