That was a piece of cake once I called the guy who works for Gentex and got the correct pin outs for the wiring. I ran the temperature sensor probe wires thru a rubber gromet that is barely visible from inside the car to the underhood. The gromet is on the right side of the firewall below the ECM.You will have to remove the kick panel moulding, the right underdash sound insulator moulding and I took both of the windshield "A" pillar garnish mouldings off to route the wires. I ran the temp sensor wires from the sensor (that I mounted inside of the right grill air intake behind the grill on the metal bumper support)up the "A" pillar ,under the headliner to the original mirror connector and installed the terminals in terminal cavities 4&5. I ran a 12v ignition feed wire from the gauges 10amp fuse to terminal #1 or the mirror connector and up the left side "A" pillar and under the headliner. Terminal cavity #3 is used for reverse(so that the mirror,if dimmed and the car is in reverse will brighten).I chose not to bother adding that circuit. The other wires in the original connector will remain in their original locations. The mirror works great! Here are some pictures of the install! Just click on the link since I do not have a site that allows hotlinking of photos.Click on the album "Auto Dimming Mirror"

I don't think that the mirror will be cancelled any time in the near future. The guy I talked to says that they ship out hundreds of thousands of these to Toyota,GM, and many other manufactures. The problem I had trying to install mine 1st was that the mirror was packaged for a Toyota and I had a hard time with the simple wiring and could not figure out how it was wired per the instructions. The instructions were useless and I got the correct pin outs and it worked great!

That's what we thought about the one we bought, too. [Roll Eyes] I like our mirror because the temp/compass display is not in the viewing field. It also has map lights and is not auto dimming. We bought ours through Mito Corp.

Did the company that made your mirror just quit making it?

Maybe a trip to Greg's garage one day [Wink]

I have that mirror in the Subby and really enjoy it.

Come on over and I will help with the install! Maybe even talk to the guy who gave me my mirrors if he can get a group price or discounted price on them for others that may want one! [Smile]

group deal sounds like a plan. installs are always easier if you've done it before.

I'm off to pick up the hats now at Autobahn.

Have a great evening all. Dan, heading out about
8:00 a.m. tomorrow.

Cya.

Hopefully I'll see you tomorrow night Hawkeye. If not see you on Friday!!

GP on that mirror sounds great. Maybe we can take a poll to see how much interest there is and when Greg talks to them he can tell them how many are interested!

Sounds like a idea! What company would not give a discounted price if we are doing all of the word of mouth advertising for their product?

The mirror we bought from Mito Corp was made by Johnson Controls. The one that's available now is manufactured by Gentex.

...Nice job...
It's a great mirror, I installed the same one (Gentex) as 2002z4css (Greg?).
...I as well had to call Gentex to get pin-out information.
The mirror I got does have the same connector as the stock mirror that came with the car. The wires currently present, are in the same configuration of the mirror I received, so power, ground and door switch are already wired. I also wired in the reverse feature Greg mentioned, (tapped into wiring on connector behind pass. kick panel).
If anyone wants info, I'd be glad to send as well...

I reused the factory mirror connector and just added 3 wires to it. [Smile]
