The previous owner of my SS never used any kind of interior protector. The Dash, plastics, etc. are all virgin, so to speak. He instructed me to leave it alone because once you start to treat it, you have to keep it up and some of the counter stuff is actually bad, i.e.- Armour All.

My SS is in my garage always and it's not my daily driver so no worries about the sun killing my dash. My questions......

> Should I treat my dash, plastics, etc(being it's never been treated)? And with what product? Non-greasy, good smelling? What's the best out there?

> What is the best leather seat cleaner/conditioner on the market?

> What is the best stuff to preserve/protect the delicate rubber weatherstripping around the windoes and T-Tops? Vaseline? Silicone in a grease form or spray and what's the BEST brand?

> What's the best tire dressing for a nice, clean glossy look but is dry to the touch and will not rub off or come off easy?

Thanks in advance for any and all feedback! [Smile]

To start I'd go check out the Zaino webpage. www.zainobros.com I use ALL their products. I use the Z-9 leather cleaner and the Z-10 leather conditioner on my entire interior. It also has UV protection in it. I use the Z-16 tire gloss also on the weather striping.

Kev, What do you use for your rubber weather-window stripping around the T-tops and windows? I want a true protector for this material. I heard there is something that you can rub on it and expands the rubber for better leak proof(Rain)? I heard something called silicone grease?

I use Zaino tire dressing on all the rubbers and weather stripping. 37K miles, no leaks, rubber still nice and soft.

I use the Z-16, but there is a product that GM recommends, I believe it is dielectic grease or something like that. It would be in back of the owners manual.

Damn Dana, that's prood the Zaino leather stuff works!

Kev, I found out today from my local Chevy dealer, GM has a "weatherstripping Lubrication for T-Tops" and it's $50.00 for a very small bottle! It took my a half an hour of BS-ing with my Chevy dealer to answer one question!!!

Dealers are very difficult to deal with! I would never buy a new car from any dealer period.

Your dealer's full of it (shock, shock). Check it out on gmpartsdirect.com...$5.50. In case you haven't already looked it up in your owners manual, the part number is 12345579.

Hi Ray, I only use a damp cold cotton rag for the dash and plastics, and I've never had a cracked dash in 28 years. For the tires I use Maguire's---its easy and looks great. The "grease" I use for the weatherstripping is the one called for in the owner's manual. Just my 2 cents. [Big Grin]

ok the product is called krytox and it does help with the weatherstrips i use it on all the weatherstrips and no more leaks in my car. this was recomended by the gm service rep. and yes it expensive but not that expensive. the rep gave it to me to use because of all the time i spent going back and forth between the damn chevy dealer to get the car fixed. i can wait until they offer cross-warranty for gm products! then i can get my car fixed at my dealer.

the stuff sold in the gm parts catalog is not the same stuff this is an industrial strength product. if anyone is interested i can get some and send it to you ( since i work for pontiac).

hope this helps you

I've always used armorall on the interior plastics and even the weather stripping. I don't know if it's good or not, but nothing bad has happened. I've used it on my camaro, my Z24, and my father has used it on his cars. Although this stuff that GM reccomends I might try on the weather striping since they perscribe it!

Oh yah, I was using armorall on leather seats (yikes!) hehe, i now use the Macguirs leather care. (seats got to slippery, haha)

They make you buy six tubes though, so it's really $33 plus shipping. If anyone is possibly interested in splitting a pack with me, let me know.

Same here, My 2000 SS is also a Hanger Queen as my wife calls it. Anyway, RACE GLAZE makes great product called TRIM RENEW. I use it on a regualar basis, mainly because it has no silicon in it, and it does not leave that glossy shine that most others use and it smells just like the orginal smell of my still new SS. Right now, it has less than 2500 miles on the odometer. Try Afterthoughtsauto.com

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Still, the dealer shouldn't charge more than $15 for a single tube.
