As a former Impala SS owner, I was interested recently to see that Mercury had resurrected an old performance nameplate and was building a new Maraurder sedan. I had wondered why Ford hadn't created a new '500 XL' or Mercury a new 'Marauder' or 'Turnpike Cruiser' when the Impala line was killed in '96. Well, they have done it.
As a matter of interest, here is something from one of the web pages on this new entry:
------ "The original Mercury Marauder was one of the first American muscle sedans, but it wasn't the last. From 1994-96, Chevy carried the torch with the Impala SS. If you're an Impala SS owner, you fell in love with the aggressive look, impressive power and roomy interior. But to the disappointment of you, and fans of the muscle sedan everywhere, Chevy ceased production after just three years. The end of an era?
Not exactly. Mercury picked up the torch and ran with it, to the tune of over three-hundred horsepower. Everything the Impala SS was, the Marauder is and more. More horsepower, more features, more attitude. Compare for yourself." --------
Just thought someone might be interested in seeing this. As an aside, when I sold my '95 Impala SS last summer, I got about $2000 less than what I paid for it new. That's 'holding its value' pretty good I would say. It will be interesting in years to come to see what the on-going value of the new Marauder will be.
That's all from the "for what it's worth" department for today. Sorry about the 'ford' content. Does that mean I will be relegated to unpostable status like Bello SS?!!!!

My current "family" car is a 1999 Chev Suburban. I figure one more year with it. The kids are moving away and I would seriously consider one to replace the Subby.
I like it!

As you can see in the sig, I still have my 96 SS. I like the Marauder and haven't seen the specs but I don't think that even with the extra horses it has the low end torque of the LT1 - yes?
