i took the liberty of calling AAA travel services and they have prepared a travel route for us to take which will cover skyline drive and the most scenic tours to BG. so with that said i will be picking them up on thursday after work and will have them available for us to go over if we wish to!

...sounds good Erin. I pasted below from an earlier thread. As per Chris's 'mapping' we would end up around Lexington,Va. after about 500miles which seems like a decent point since we could pick up I-64 west starting Wednesday morning. Let's compare this to what AAA says. Any thoughts on checking with AAA for our return trip as well? Also, ...it would be a good idea if we posted what we decide. For ourselves (so each of us knows the route, ...just in case) as well as for other caravans to know our plan.
quote:n our way TO Bowling Green: ...Lexington, Va. (vicinity) sounds fine for Tuesday night. Any thoughts on the route we want to take for Wednesday?? (I-64west --> 60 (scenic) -->I-64 (to Lexington)?? ...then? meet with nother caravan?
On the way back: ...I-65 --> I-71 --> I-70 --> I-76 --> I-81 (or I-80, either would be fine). NOW, ...It would seem some of our Canadian friends may be taking a similar route for the 1st leg of the return trip. Any thougths on a "train" heading north? ...we could plan an overnight in the same hotel??? somewhere?? OR, ...any scenic/alternative routes we might consider??? (ie. Daniel Boone Prkwy, Flight 93 site,???)...up for discussion at BG, ...??

It depends on how quick you want to get home. The quickest way home is Rt 65 to Rt 71 to Rt 70 to Rt 76(PA Turnpike). You can then catch Rt 81 north. That takes you thru Louisville,Cincinnati and Columbus. Last year we stayed overnight in Columbus on the return trip. Just an idea to kick around. How many miles is it to Carlisle for you all? From my house to Bowling Green via the route above is 730 miles. 12 hours and 23 minutes. Iam about 1 hour from Carlisle.

sounds good, ill add that onto the info i gave them, i asked them for the most scenic route including the drive through skyline so hopefully they will have it all there when i go pick it up on thursday. unfortunately i will not be able to make it this week to Bear Mtn. i have prior plans...so i will get the info up on thursday night what they have mapped out and others can plan there trip with ours. plus i asked them to give my hotels, motel and inns in the area at the end of skline so we can hopefully call ahead and find out if they will have opening for our large group!

Sound good Erin... Ralph, ...we are about 200 miles from Carlisle ...(I think???) I go there for Spring and Fall shows almost every year, ...you'd think I'd know by now Posts: 1046 | From: Pine Bush, NY USA | Registered: Aug 2001

Kevin, Erin said about leaving at 6AM and arriving in Carlisle about 10AM. If its 200 miles,it shouldn't take 4 hours. How long did it take you to drive it? I should be there by 9:30AM on Tuesday,if that is ok. I can be there earlier if need be.
