Got home from Vegas yesterday afternoon. Had a great time at SLP's Customer Appreciation day. There were tons of beautiful SSes there and quite a few Firebirds, too. Got quite a few runs in on the quarter mile. The weather was perfect after a hot day Friday and another on Sunday. Saturday was just right. My son got a ticket for 79 in a 65 on the way down. I got my highest MPH so far, 147 in a 70 mph zone. Traffic wasn't as light as we had hoped. We did both trips from Redding to LV and back in under 10 hours (~660 miles). And I had my fastest time from Redding to home yesterday in 6 hours & 3 minutes (435 miles). Managed to trim about 12 minutes off. SLP did a great job. Didn't get to meet any of you there but I'm sure those that went had a great time. I even won enough on the slots to pay for the trip home! I don't know if SLP is planning anything for next year, but if they are, it's definitely worth the trip. By the way, the fastest car there was a Camaro SS from Lakewood, CO that was running around 10.7. He got aced out right at the end on reaction time, so didn't get the King of the Track award, but he should have.

It was definitely a fun event and one that is already penciled in for next year.
I managed 25 MPG on the way home doing 80-90 MPH most of the time. Gotta love these cars.

I got 23 mpg on the first two tanks. I quit calculating after that as I kept the trip meter going to figure out overall miles and we had to buy a couple of partial tanks at high prices to get us to a station with a lower price. I don't normally stay at one speed which doesn't help with the mileage. I usually slow down to within 5-10 mph of the speed limit when I can't tell what's ahead or if I'm in traffic, then speed back up when all is clear, so I'm constantly shifting between flooring it and slamming on the brakes. Not good for gas mileage. That's not what I bought the car for, though, so I guess it doesn't really matter. 23's not too bad. Way better than the 12-15 that the '69 used to get!

Hmmm didn't see you there.... Myself and another guy with an SS drove down from Idaho. I didn't think anyone from the northwest came down....? LONG drive.... 12 hours each way pulling with the avalanche!

I ran into a guy, Randy Oxier, that had on a t-shirt from Pacific Northwest Camaro Club's Bellevue show. He's from Port Orchards. So there were at least a couple of us that made the long drive. I saw a car there with Florida plates, but being so close to the Air Force base it's hard to tell if they drove from Florida without talking to them. It was kind of weird, I saw several cars, including a couple of new Camaros at the show, while in Vegas that didn't have any plates and no discernable temporary tag. One of the new Camaros had some kind of small sticker in the front window, but I couldn't tell if it was a temporary or a parking pass. A lot of people seem to be getting away with no front plate as well. When I lived in California I had an '85 Trans Am that had nowhere to mount a front plate and I was getting pulled over all the time, even if I left it in the front window on the dash. I'd take mine off in a hot second if I knew I wasn't going to get pulled over for it. I hate getting hassled for petty stuff like that.
