Does anyone know anything about the CARTEK Clutches? Pros, Cons, etc... i have been to there web site and read up on them a little bit, but does anyone have one on there SS and if so, do you like it? There clutch package comes with the clutch, disc, pressure plate and pre-bleed modified hydraulics with DOT5 master with adj. pedal rod and slave for $850.00. from what i have seen, this price is pretty average compared to other aftermarket clutches. but i did not see whether or not this package came with a Flywheel or not.

I ordered the Z06 clutch package. Comes with clutch pressure plate and flywheel and slave cylinder for about $600. I didn't want to play around with packages that might cause problems and while I plan some addtitional bolt ons to get me to about 360 rwhp, the Z06 clutch should be plenty to hold that much.

just got off of the LG motorsports page and they have the SPEC star clutch. in the write-up, it says; Kevlar (street), Carbon (street/strip), Ceramic (race only).
Question is: can i use the Ceramic plate as a daily driver, or is it truely a "race only" setup?

Yeah, i was looking at that clutch, but what is making me sway towards the CARTEK one is that it has 100% more clamping force over stock as opposed to the Z06 that has 30% more clamping force. but then again, the Z06 is less expensive.

Nathan, Don't waste a bunch of money while you're under warranty....if you can get your current clutch warrantied with stock parts, save your pennies and if the new clutch goes out once you're out of warranty, worry about an aftermarket one then.
For the type of driving you do, the stock or Z06 clutch should be adequate.

GMHTP used the Spec Star Stage 3 Kevlar in Project Thunderchicken and they were very pleased with it. I'll see if I can hunt it up and let you know what issue it was in.
Phil Reddy (Fast Toys) is running one in his blown Z28 and recommends it.
That's the way I'm leaning for my replacement right new.

There used to be a GM clutch engineer on the "original" SLP board. I don't remember his name.
He did post once that the Z06 clutch would be a perfect replacement for an SS, unless the engine was "built" into a full race application.
GM performance parts tested the Z06 against aftermarket competitors and the Z06 package held it's own. I wish I could recall his name. Any other of you "old timers" remember?

I'd double check. The SLP 60026 package is supposedly a Z06 clutch with a lighter flywheel. The NOTE refers to '02's needing only the flywheel.

i am having some serious problems with my clutch. (engaging at random points, slipping, and the actual pedal sitting WAY to high). when i had my '99 Z, the clutch was still an issue, but nothing compared to this. i know that the clutch is one of the weak points in the f-body's, but with a "Z06" clutch, i am still having issues. . if these clutches are meant to handle 400+ hp, then why can't is handle 320hp? maybe it is a toned down version of the corvette Z06 clutch, or maybe i just got a piece of $^@& clutch from the factory. is anyone else with about 320hp having any major problems with their clutch? mine is an '02 that i have had for a year and a few months with just under 20k miles. and of course i have been to two different dealers, and they both say that the clutch engages normally. sorry this is so long, but i just had to blow off steam. and sorry Steve for making you listen to me whine about this over and over Posts: 1579 | From: Portland, OR. | Registered: May 2001
