Yes, I do have a '68 Chevelle.
When we get around to having enough money to actually doing something with it, this die-cast is very similar to the paint scheme I'm thinking of going with.

Does you Chevelle have a painted or vynyl top? SS? I love Chevelles of any year. When you get around to restoring that car I have a yellow dot Delco AM/FM/Stereo that would fit that dash. Posts: 5682 | From: Dearborn,Mi. | Registered: Feb 2002

The car is a Grotto Blue, 307, no-post coupe. In the late 70's, it got painted a screaming blue color. Some remember it as a '71 Ford color that made it on Mustangs, Torinos & Pintos. It's pretty much the same color as a Blue Raspberry Slurpee.
My Aunt & Uncle bought it new in '68 (they saved all the paperwork and didn't even knock out the keys) and my Gramps bought it for me in 1982 when I was 16 for a whopping $500. It had 88k miles on it, with a life of short trips of a mile at a time, to the Post Office, Grocery Store, the Bank and back home. I put another 30K on it during the time I drove it on a regular basis through High School and College. It hasn't been driven for 12 years (except to bring it to Portland, Oregon from Medford, Oregon ~ 300 miles).
My plans are to have Steve beef up the 307 to be as fuel efficient as it can get with a little bit of performance enhancement. With a 307 to work with, I know it won't be much, but that's o.k. It's going to be my daily driver so we can put the '90 5.7 IROC away for future restoration. I feel bad putting wear & tear on it, since it's a nice example of a 3rd Gen.
We have bought some vinyl top trim for my Chevelle, but instead of a vinyl top, I'm thinking of going with a two-tone theme. It'll get an SS hood, but I won't badge it as such. I've also thought of emulating the SS paint scheme with white rocker panels and a white rear panel (instead of the common black that SS's got).
I might also go with a white interior, using some white '98 Camaro seats in it. Those will be more comfortable than the bench seat if we take it on a road trip.
As for the blue....there are so many nice blues out there, I haven't made my mind up. Perhaps the '04 Corvette Blue that's coming out, to replace Electron Blue, will be nice.
Everything will remain original except for the cosmetic stuff, so restoring it to stock original will be easy in the future. I have no plans on getting rid of it. It was my first car and I'm attached to it.
I know it's not too pretty now, but someday it will be.
As for that stereo......what are you looking to get for it?

That car may still have a build sheet in it somewhere! I like the hardtops more than a post Chevelle 300.A cam and headers and a 4 barrel with a GM HEI ignition should be fine with that 307. Posts: 5682 | From: Dearborn,Mi. | Registered: Feb 2002

The car was re-upholstered a year or two after I took ownership. The upholstery shop didn't tell me whether or not they found a build sheet behind the back seat. They were nice enough to leave my rear seat belts tucked away under the seat, and as the panel under the back window turned to swiss cheese through the years (as most all of them do) and water leaked in, the seat belts & buckles turned into a rusty mess.
I'm hoping when we take the car apart for restoration, we find a build sheet on top of the gas tank. If not, oh well. I at least have the original sales sheet.
The current '71 color on it is FORD "Grabber Blue", and I can't wait to find a new blue for it.
I look at every car I see on the road, searching for the right shade of blue.

Yeah, that'll be difficult to reproduce and keep on there when driving 80 m.p.h., won't it? Posts: 7198 | From: Near Portland, Oregon, USA | Registered: Feb 2000
