I'm trying to verify that a '97 SS that is for sale in Toronto is a bona fide SS and not a "poseur". I know that the RPO code for the "SS Upfitter Package" in '98 was WU8. Can anybody confirm whether or not the 97 SS had the same code? As well, was the standard SS exhaust the "2-on-da-left", as opposed to the 98's "single cannon" (also on the left)? I will also check on the passenger door for the SLP sticker. Any other suggestions for verification? Thanks in advance.

I believe the RPO code for a 1997 Camaro SS was R7T. Other than running the VIN thru the SLP build # section and the door jamb sticker,I can't think of anything else.Maybe the original window stickers. Posts: 5682 | From: Dearborn,Mi. | Registered: Feb 2002

The exhaust would either be the 2otl or dual-dual, definetly not single cannon.

... heh, heh... as long as whoever had the car left well enough alone! (it's sitting on a used car lot) Thanks Jeff! I'm hoping to have an eyewitness report tonight, as well as a VIN.

I'd have to double check but I am sure mine says WU8.

96-97 = R7T (Upfitted by SLP, not a GM product) 98-the end =WU8 (GM RPO code for GM option)

Interesting! My 97 SS vert. has both the WU8 and the R7T code. It also has an R7A code that I have not been able to identify. Posts: 376 | From: Friendswood, TX | Registered: Jun 2002

One other twist, I believe the 30th anniversary editions had the unique WU9 code in addition to the R7T.

The best way is call SLP. give them the vin# and they can tell you. It won't take long there real helpfull. They will tell you all the Slp optionsit came with. The # is 248-288-3888 or 3066 ext.128. I talked to a guy named Jason.
