Has anyone else seen theSLP thread, provide your VIN#, ...and Lili gives a neat rundown on your car, ...pretty cool of her to do this.

Anyway, ...the 'report' on my car came back with the following wording:
" Campaign number 01072, ...Cold Spot Welds, ...You have this open recall that needs to be taken care of ..."
I never heard of any recalls, nor did I ever receive anything stating there was one. Anyone heard of this/ know anything about it [Confused]
(May only be applicable to '02 verts, ...not sure...) Needless to say I'll be calling a local dealer, ...there's just something about "Cold SpotWelds" that doesn't give me warm fuzzies...

Here's a portion of it. Compare your VIN to below. Good luck. [Smile]

F/CMVSS Noncompliance - Cold Spot Welds #01072 - (12/19/2001)
01072 -- Cold Spot Welds
2002 Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird

Condition
General Motors has decided that certain 2002 Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird model vehicles fail to conform to Federal/Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS/CMVSS) FMVSS 208, "Occupant Crash Protection," CMVSS 208 "Occupant Restraint Systems in Frontal Impact," and FMVSS 214 "Side Impact Protection," CMVSS 214 "Side Door Strength." These vehicles may have four welds attaching the front body hinge pillar outer to the front body hinge pillar reinforcement near the lower driver's side door hinge that do not meet GM's specifications. In a crash, an occupant could receive more severe injuries.

Correction
Dealers are to install three structural rivets.

Vehicles Involved
Involved are certain 2002 Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird model vehicles built within these VIN breakpoints:

2002 Chevrolet Camaro Ste. Therese
From 22121761 Through 22125702

2002 Pontiac Firebird Ste. Therese
From 22121781 Through 22125701

Wasn't this the production hold up - I thought I remebered that all cars were fixed before leaving the factory.

Thanks for the information.
"...22124944", ...I'm in that sequence.
Rich, ...I thought the same. I was aware of my car being 'pulled back'(along with many others at the time) but this recall thing is new news to me.
"...Dealer to install 3 structural rivets", ...you know how anal I am about my car, ...I want to know EXACTLY what this entails IF/when they touch it!

Has anyone else taken their car in for THIS recall??????????????????

Mine also falls in the sequence [Confused] VIN 22123969. Are there any dealers in the Portland area that have a clue how to make this repair. [Frown]

probably better off asking Scott if you can get ahold of him. GM might not necessarily tell SLP why production was held up.

I highly doubt it! Sorry to hear you may have to have your car messed with by the monkeys at the dealership. Good luck everybody, and keep us posted.

You can get recall information on any of your GM cars by registering at www.mygmlink.com (it's free) and this will tell you if your car is involved in any recall..........

As to the weld issue.....cars were individually inspected at the plant (those that were still in our possession) and repaired. Any car that was not repaired at the plant would have a recall notice. It is to inspect the weld to ensure that the weld is up to production standards.

Here's the part of the report that indicates the recall. It indicates "Owner Notified" (but I haven't been) ...yet also indicates "Open"(which would imply it still needs correction).
Yet since I haven't been notified, one might come to the conclusion my car has already been 'inspected'. So which is it, ...I still don't know [Confused] ??
I'm sure we'll figure this out...

Well. I called GM (1-800-222-1020), ...My car has the recall, ...and it IS OPEN...

I got a couple replies from our 'local rep', ...I thought I'd share them with you:

[QUOTE] ....did we mention that the Rivets used are about 4 inches in
diameter and they are attached thru the exterior door panel.........and the
way they rust over time will blend very well with Sunset Orange Metallic?
(that assumes that the sheet molded compound doesn't splinter when "Bob"
the body shop guy hits it real hard with a sledge hammer???????)
(heeheehee......running and ducking.............)[/QOUTE]

AND...
[QUOTE]actually we have a much better fix...........we take a half-dozen carriage
bolts....and run them through from the inside out...and attach them with
some barn hinges................guaranteed that the hinges will not let go
in an accident! [/QOUTE]

...Nothing but the best, ...from our friendly "SS"... [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

RagSS, if you buy enough plastic wrap, maybe we could just heat shrink it around your car.

i had this recall on my car but it had already been repaired when i recieved my car. if it has been corrected it would have a with sticker under the good to the right of the air lid, almost over top of the headlight. at least that is where mine is located.

well, i chose not to have mine done, the told me at the dealer they needed to remove the fender to do so and i am deadset against removing it, i had a hard enough time getting the flames to match up as it is. but for everyone else this shouldnt be a problem. if there is any other way f doing it without removing the fender please let me know...thanks bunches!
