I would use what GM recommends. I have heard of some concerns that people have had after using synthetic brake fluid.I just use the factory recommended fluid. [Smile]

Ditto what Greg said.

When I put my line lock in I had checked with a reputable brake shop about them flushing the system and switching to a non-paint eating DOT4 or DOT5 fluid. They strongly recommended against it.

I change my brake fluid at the beginning of each season and use the Heavy Duty Ford DOT 3. (Yes, you heard correct!). This stuff has higher dry and (more importantly) wet boiling points that DOT 4, and is vastly superior to the basic DOT 3 recommended by GM. It is also quite inexpensive, especially when compared to some of the "high performance" brake fluids that are on the market.
As an autocrosser and lapper, I'm pretty demanding on my brakes and this stuff has never boiled or let me down in the 4 years I've been using it.
Go into a Ford dealer and buy the stuff in the aluminum cans, as opposed to buying the plastic bottles at an auto supply store. Some moisture can get into the plastic bottle thru osmosis - not so with the aluminum cans. I pay about CDN $8.00 for a 500 ml. can. You will need 1 full can plus a bit less than half of a second can for your flush.

Best regardSS,

Elie
