Now keep in mind that in three years I have never been pulled over by the ploice in the SS.
Yesterday morning I had an early conference call with the Asia Pac team (06:30) so I was on the road at 5:15 in the SS.
Near my home there is an entrance ramp near an overpass that is long, wide and straight on a slight incline and one of those that becomes the third lane on the highway so no merge is required.
Since it was early and no one I was on the road I decided to have a little fun and slowed at the bottom of the ramp and then accelerated hard through to third gear up to about 70 MPH.
Well no sooner do I hit the top of the ramp than I see the flashing lights in the rear view!
I pull over and after the usual documentation request the officer asks "Mr Luse do you have any idea why I pulled you over?" "Why no I don't" I say. "Well I was sitting on the over pass and watched you slow down, rev, and then accelerate at an extremely fast rate". "Oh" I said (clever huh?). "What were you doing - just playing?" he asks. "uh yes, just playing" I respond (feeling like an idiot sitting there in my suit and tie and wondering how I am going to explain the rise in insurance rates to my wife) . "Ok", he says, "I'll be back".
A few minutes later he returns to the car and says "this is your one free pass from me, and by the way - really nice car!".
So all's well that ends well but I drove away saying....Ooops!

Man, my heart would be pounding. Of course, us 'young kids' dont get off so easily. Guess I've been lucky here, cause I like to 'play' as well. Posts: 2651 | From: Enola (Harrisburg Area), Pennsylvania | Registered: Jan 2002

You probably made his morning by having something a little different (and pretty awesome) to look at.

Sounds like he only wanted to see the Mods you just did OR he wanted to hear the sound of the SS again Posts: 3091 | From: Canton Mi. | Registered: Oct 2002

I am glad it worked out in your favor Dad. Have to be a little careful when " having fun " on those entrance ramps. Thats where most Smokies hang out at times. Posts: 2841 | From: Westland, MI | Registered: Apr 2003

Yes, my heart was pounding and I was saying "*%#t" repeatedly.
He was a young guy, and unlike many of these "gestapo" (as my wife calls them) police here in NJ, he spared me the usual speech. In fact he didn't quite know what to say since I didn't spin the tires and only exceeded the speed limit by about 5 mph.
I don't think it was so much the suit as it was the car - I think it would have been hard to say that what I did was unsafe (seat belt was on of course) - I mean it certainly wasn't exceeding the capabilities of the car or the tires, and the car was spotless front to back and sounded awfully good sitting there idling while he was talking to me!
But yes, I felt very stupid to not think of looking up the hill next to me and very lucky that he gave me a break.

I also believe you made a very good impression on him to Dad. With the car and all I think he was in too much awe. Posts: 2841 | From: Westland, MI | Registered: Apr 2003
