The CICC is considering another Camaro show for 2004, but a question has come up regarding the layout of a proposed facility. The location would be in a park like setting but there is a catch. The entrance to the park is a gravel drive, but the parking area would be grass. The park owner has a 34 Chevy that he takes in and out of the location all of the time and does not have a problem. We would try to eliminate as much of the dust as possible. The setting would be excellent for another fun show.

If everyone is told up front about the layout I don't really see a problem. Remember, our shows don't have a 1000 point judging system or certificate levels of awards. Its bring what you got and have a good time.

Your thoughts and comments are welcome.

Is this gravelled area 100 feet, 1000 feet, or one mile? It may not be a big deal if it's a short distance, but could be sigificant if it's more than just a few hundred feet.

...If it's a short distance across gravel, I don't think it would be an issue. Like you mentioned, if the main intent is to get a gathering of people together to have fun (and not a 1000 point judging) then the cars that will come will most likely be people there to have fun and not 1000 point show...

I think it would keep a lot of people away. Most don't like to drive on gravel roads at any time, short or long distances. I think this would definitely hurt you attendance.

If told up front what to expect - I would be very appreciative. Not all shows are going to be held in paved areas, granted I'd prefer a paved locale, but beggers can't be choosy.

It is when it is a "surprize" that irks me.

Sure hope you guys do an event soon, had a blast at the 35th party at IRP. You guys and gals sure know how to pull an event together! [Smile]

I hate gravel. [Mad]

Driving over a strip of it isn't as bad as getting in and then having the dust from everyone else coming in settling on the car all day.

Since you asked... Personally, if I knew gravel was involved, I'd be less likely to attend.

For me the biggest issue would be the dust. If the gravel is packed driving on it would be no problem. ( some gravel roads out here are very, very loose ) If you plan on wetting down the gravel to prevent dust remember that this has a good chance of making a "paste" that will stick to the tires and can be thrown onto the cars. Again for me no big deal for a short distance. Just add more cleaning time but then again everyone would be in the same boat..I say go for it.

Ever been to a show where everthing went right & everyone was happy?? PLease let me know of the next one. As long as everyone drives slow and it's not a mile long, i'd say go for it and BBQ the first guy that lights his tires up in it [Wink]

Enjoy, BadRag

Thanks guys,

The replies are what I thought I would receive. We have currently shelved that location and have started looking for another venue.

How important is the lap around the Indy 500 Track?

...Taking a lap around the track is cool, ...BUT I doubt it would be an issue at all if it couldn't be part of a show.

That would be cool, since I have a picture of my 69 SS396 on the Indy track at the Indy2YK show. Not a necessity though.

Laps at the track are cool, but certainly not a requirement.

Any possibilty of being able to go more than 30 mph?

MIS @ 55 mph [Wink] was GREAT!

Doug..I think the lap would get a lot of "out of towners" to the show. I know I would make the drive if it included a lap around the 500...

Just a far-fetched idea...depending on how long the gravel road is..lightly water it down to keep the dust from coming up, but not enough to get the cars 'wet' just tread. Just throwing something else out there for ya. Probably not possible.

No, I wouldn't even want sticky dirt on my tire treads. Ditching that location for a better one is a good idea.

As for laps... absolutely, but 30mph like last time was just plain cruel. I think I never actually broke 20mph the last time we were there. That sucked.

The track has always been a draw for the participants that have never been to one of our shows. I believe its one of those things we still have to offer. The IMS is a country all of its own, its their way or the highway. I feel your pain doing 30 mph around the track, sure I'd like to go at least 55, but its their track and I can't do much about it.

I will keep you posted. [Big Grin]
