Noticed that shifting into 2nd gear caused a grinding noise. At first I thought it was just me, but after a few more short trips I found it happens all the time. Glad we bought the extended warranty. After some inquiring I decided to take it to a dealer about 45 minutes from us, rather than the local Chevy dealer. We bought the car from a dealer about 2 hours away from us so going back to the selling dealer was not an option. The car goes in next Monday at 8 am. I went to the dealer today and checked the place out, and spoke to the service advisor to set things up. I left with a good feeling that our car will be taken care of. More to follow!

Glad to hear you are feeling comfortable with this Dealer. Hopefully it is a minor problem and quickly fixed so you can get back to cruising again soon. [Big Grin] [Cool]

And have them put synthetic back in as long as they are at it.

I would not suggest using synthetic in the T56. I have heard of it causing synchros to grind a little bit. Myself, I use good old Dextron and change it once in a while.

BTW, if you have the tranny redone with the carbon fiber backed synchros I have read in one of the magazines (HPP, GMHTP, etc) in an article about beefing up the T56 that you should ONLY use Dextron as other oils will attack the carbon fiber backing over time.

Good luck with the warranty work. It's sad that a lot of people on here have had bad experiences. Luckily I have had good service from my local dealer. Keep us posted! [Smile]

My car doesn't grind all the time going into 2nd, just sometimes. I had the Head Tech of Tom Oates Chevrolet (yes the same ones as Tiger Racing) and he drove my car. He said its the blocker ring. If you can live with it, I would not tear it apart. So I am. It grinds when i try to speed shift, but I shift so hard that it grinds briefly. Its lasted 55K so far. [Smile]

Maybe you might want to upgrade some parts while the tranny is apart. I did, and it worked out amazingly well. Check here-
