I saw there are outages in many cities, including Detroit. Is that why the board is down?

That's why he frequents here more often now.
I tried getting on SLP's msg board, has to be b/c of the power outage. Kinda spooky if you ask me about all these major cities getting hit. Goot think the stock market closed before it hit.

the power is out in all of Troy where the SLP offices are - I only got power at my house about an hour ago. My battery backups at the office only lasted a few hours on the servers. I live 30 miles north of the offices and from what I hear on the radio, my town is only one of a few to have power restored so far.
From what they tell me, I should have power at the offices sometime over the weekend. I'll go in and boot up the servers when that happens.
Leave it to the quebecers to destroy the whole northeast power grid....

They still don't know and probably won't for a while as to what caused the power outage. First blame was put on a fire at a NY Powerstation, then they said lightening hit a power station at Niagra Falls, then they said it started in Ohio, then Michigan. Talk about confusion.

Wasn’t it some cow that kicked over a kerosene lamp in the barn that started the fire, causing the power to go out? Posts: 641 | From: northern Delaware | Registered: Jul 2002

No, according to the local news - out of 4.3 million local power customers only 300K have power. All of Troy (Where SLP is located) is still without power. I keep calling the Troy Police to see if the power is back up, but not yet. When the power is back, they say the earliest may be sunday - I'll go down to the offices and power up all of the servers.

They're saying that Detroit will be without power until at least Sunday. Definitely not good.

I'm about 10 m iles south of Dave and just got power on. Troy should have it sometime tomorrow I would guess. BUT, we still don't have water. The zillions of miles of pipes have to be re-pressurized from Detroit-that could take awhile. Detroit is about 50/50 with power right now.

What politics Our mad cows took out the power grid. End of story.
p.s. I guess I'll have to do a better job of keeping up with (no electrical) current affairs. I hadn't realized it was that bad. Posts: 4222 | From: Winnipeg MB CA | Registered: Feb 2000

As of now the Dream Cruise is still on but will be shutdown at 8:00pm tonight. I haven't heard if power has been restored there but as of 6:00am the local radio station said that supplies and business are limited there so power may not be on as of this posting. 500,000 were still powerless.
As for the State Fair, they are assesing the situation hour by hour. Posts: 2841 | From: Westland, MI | Registered: Apr 2003

The board and all of the SLP servers are back up and online, only problem is - the lines are not up (T1 lines). TransEdge is re-routing all of the lines and they tell me sometime this weekend all will be well.
I just spent the past 4 hours getting the network and servers operational again just to find that the outside lines are dead - so hopefully sometime this weekend, you'll be able to access SLP.
My job is done, I'm headed out - I do have a life outside of SLP and the Internet........ Posts: 485 | From: Clarkston, MI | Registered: Feb 2000

The Quebec Hydro power system is isolated from the grid that crashed. That's why their power never went out. They only export power to our grid using a direct current system. Their system did not cause the grid to go down.
