On the way home from BG last Sunday evening, I encountered this idiot on I 75 in Detroit who wanted to street race me. I was about 10 miles from my exit to Canada and he kept doing the “Lets race” thing and since I am not a believer in street racing I tried to ignore him. This nonsense kept on going for about two miles. I would slow down and he would slow down. I would speed up to 60 and he would do the same thing. I finally got irritated enough to call 911 and the police officer who answered advised me to pull off at the next exit, wait at the light and get back on the highway again. I guess the guy finally realized that he was wasting his time with me or he saw me on the phone and took off. He was driving a Lexus sedan type of car with duals out the back. I don’t know much about these cars and don’t know if I could have taken him if I had decided to do the stupid thing. I guess I’ll never know because I took a pledge about street racing at the OCC Nationals in June and I intend to uphold that pledge.

Congratulations! This is exactly the kind of story I'd much rather read about on this board, rather than "kill" stories - in the sense that you had the good judgement to not get involved with this lamebrain. Way t'go and thanks for setting a good example for all of us to follow!

Smart move. Ya never know the person or the outcome of these types of situations.

I've been "beaten" by several riced out Mitsubishis and Civics... and even an Echo! It's just not worth it to me. One cool thing that did happen was when another Camaro came up on my right, the driver looked over and said.... no way... you'd beat me bad. He had a 3rd gen v6. I just have him a thumbs up and a smile and we both took off nice and easy.

Good choice. It's the choice I make as well. NEver been to the track with my SS, but someday I will.
I look at it this way, if you respect your car, and care for it, you wont race on the road. Race at a track under a "controlled" environment.

Well done. I've passed up many street races, just ain't worth it. I will not do it under any circumstance, but I really get stumped when people try it in bad conditions.

kewl, i hate street racing...only proves one thing: stupidity. If a cop sees you, ure licence is pretty much gone, and then come the fines when all you had to do was pay 12-20 bucks to race at a track, lol. After a brotherhood event last night, one of the brothers from the fraternity im pledging for walked to my car when we got back to campus and asked to see under the hood, asked what mods i did, then politely asked to hear the sound of the exaust..after a rev or 2, his eyes went wide and was like woah...ure car pissed on mine baddd. he had a nice car, one of those 4 door sedans..wasnt riced out or anything. Im just glad that ppl I know dont seriously try to run me on the street...my mom street raced alot in her day, and of course those intentions passed down to me. bleh :-P lol. After seeing those nast pics of camaros split in 2, and the one where you can only reconize the car by the 93-97 wheel, told my self id never even think of doing that on the street..only on the track where it belongs sorry for the long reply, lol!

Unfortunately it isn't just morons who want to race Camaro drivers... I used to get the same thing from everybody and their brother (including f-bodies) when I had my Mustang. Maybe they just wanted to see how a blown 5.0 would run?
Anyway, I stopped street racing when I was almost killed at 17. A friend of mine flipped his mint condition '66 Mustang in a street race... he ended up with 3 scrathches on the back of his arm and I was in the hospital for 3 weeks in critical condition with a fractured skull among other injuries.

I get people that try to race me in my Saab & my wifes mini van .
Why on earth would you want to race a mini van ....maybe you think it's the only thing you can beat when you drive a 110hp car....except my wifes van has 240hp .
Glad you kept your cool. It's the only thing to do anymore.

Don, the drive home was uneventful except for the Lexus incident. Your contribution to the vert made a real difference. I have now added your parts to the mods list in my signature.
