Greg, did you get my email about the Chevelle?
It had boxed control arms (I think) and a rear stabilizer. I lost the paper I had the Vin on (he will get it for me) but I remember Z25 (not Z26) and M21. The car has an automatic and needs a lot of work. Does Z25 mean it is not a real SS? It has two very small areas that the magnet didn't stick. Just above the drivers windsheild and jsut a small section of the rear passenger fender lip.

Any thoughts?

Hi, Dan.

Here's what I remember about the Z25. In 1970 there were two Super Sport options, 1) Z-25 for the SS 396 and 2) Z-15 for the SS 454. These options were only available on the 2 door sport coupe and the convertible.

So based on memory, the Z-25 is an SS with the 396 motor. There were a couple of horsepower ratings for the 396 (402ci) engine - 350 base and 375 HP L78 & L89.

PS: I think the M-21 tranny was optional with 396 and standard with the 454.

In case you were wondering, I was a Chevelle junky from 69 to 71, before I bought my first Camaro in '71. I had a '64 Chevelle Malibu 2-door hardtop - red of course.

Thanks John, that makes sense. The current owner knew the previous owner and he thinks it had a 396 in it.

Greg is a Chevelle SS nut too and he thought the cowl tag had to be Z26 to signify a SS.

It has a cowl induction hood with the vacuum module on it.

Dan,I replied to the e-mail.Must have been a server thing if you did not get it.That Z25 is a real SS Chevelle.Remember now and it is not the RPO code Z26 as I thought. Sounds like the car turned into a real piece after being restored 14 years ago.With cash in hand,I bet you could get that car even cheaper.Sounds like to make perfect,it would need to be media blasted on the bottom for sure.You could still make a great driver without a full frame off restoration.Post some pictures when you can.The great thing about a 1970 Chevelle is that there are so many reporduction parts available and it is the best looking year Chevelle in my opinion. [Smile]
