I haven't checked in a while on this, but here it is, apparently the Mobil 1 has run its course. WOW!... (from Real-World Oil Test web site) :

Well, it's done. At long last, we drained the oil. Considering that we've gone two and a half times longer than we thought we'd go, we're pretty impressed by Mobil 1's longevity. Our Dexsil TBN test resulted in a 6.0, comparing favorably to Blackstone's 6.5. But speaking of high TBNs, what happened to this oil? If it had posted these numbers at the last interval, we wouldn't have dumped it. This oil could have kept going based on the numbers we have now, but they sure weren't looking this good a thousand miles ago. Viscosity was dropping, TBN rising, and what's going on with the insolubles? Meanwhile, despite all these paper improvements, the engine still had higher oil pressure and wasn't running as smoothly as normal, so clearly not all was perfect with the oil.
Honestly, this first phase of the study has probably raised as many questions as it has answered.
Presently, the Z28 is enjoying a relaxing flush fill of Amsoil "ASL" 5W30 synthetic oil, the same oil we will be using (with a refill of course) for the next phase of the study. We're going to begin the Amsoil test when the odometer turns 30,000 miles, which we currently anticipate to be early November.
We'll start posting analysis for the Mobil 1 phase as we find the time to do it.
I still think I'll change mine out a LOT sooner than this! But it's pretty good stuff to know. I doubt if these results were skewed by any big oil company. They don't seem to be. Mobil 1 seems to work!

Good news to hear but I would change the oil sooner just in case. I did mine two weeks ago with Mobil 1.

I don't care what the test results show, I'll keep changing mine every 3K.

OUt of everything I hear, I change mine around 5k. NO harm in doing it. When the SS was first new, it ate a little oil but I'm sure I can go a lot longer than 5k. Now..18k is just stretching it, hehe.

Yes, the oil doesnt break down, but it still gets the contaminants in it, like dirt, carbon, metal particles, etc. THATS why you change the oil regularly. Nice to know it will hold up well and not break down though.
I will stick with oil changes every 2500-3k miles. As I always say, "Its cheaper to replace your oil than to replace your engine"

Do your research, dirt does does mix with syn molecules, it suspends. One of the reasons syns last longer is just this, and with good filter, you can filter the dirt out and the oil remains good. Not the same story with dino oil. Sorry, I've done lots of research on this and most people agree with the oil companies and change at 3k. Nothing wrong with doing this, but it is not necessary.
Just remember; "The oil sheiks rule the world" why? because you change your oil every 3k
not meant to flame anyone, it's just easy for most to jump on the wagon without spending the time to research the facts.
