After watching an O'Reilly Factor show and the silly discussions of same-sex marriage the other day, (he argues if same-sex marriages are allowed, then any other marriage should be allowed too, such as 'I should be allowed to marry a duck!'). Anyhoo, I thought I'd check to see what South Carolina laws said on this issue. Well, contrary to popular belief, you can't marry your sister in SC. (Although great-grandparents or great-grandchildren didn't make the taboo list) However, I don't see anything in the statutes that says you can't marry a farm animal...but I suppose signing a marriage license application would be sorta tough for the duck...plus some may argue around here that (A) should keep a lot of people single in this state anyway!
quote:SECTION 20-1-10. Persons who may contract matrimony.
(A) All persons, except mentally incompetent persons and persons whose marriage is prohibited by this section, may lawfully contract matrimony.
(B) No man shall marry his mother, grandmother, daughter, granddaughter, stepmother, sister, grandfather's wife, son's wife, grandson's wife, wife's mother, wife's grandmother, wife's daughter, wife's granddaughter, brother's daughter, sister's daughter, father's sister, mother's sister, or another man.
(C) No woman shall marry her father, grandfather, son, grandson, stepfather, brother, grandmother's husband, daughter's husband, granddaughter's husband, husband's father, husband's grandfather, husband's son, husband's grandson, brother's son, sister's son, father's brother, mother's brother, or another woman.

Speaking of more silly stuff...unlike some of the twisted iterations you may find, this is straight from the GA assembly laws on the books.
Apparently, if you can prove someone was dis'ing you in GA...you can get a free punch. Just what southern rednecks need, a legal way to fight!
