I talked about doing something like this, a year or two ago, but never got around to it. now someone has, and the price isnt too bad. of course, I wouldnt leave this in the natural aluminium finish, Id strip it and have it done a nice dark blue or black.

That is actually kinda spiffy. I wonder how the heck you'd install it though. . . . Camaros would be easy. Firebird, getting it "indside" the bezel would be tricky.
The one thing I dont like are the all the little notches for the needle stop pins, but not much you can do about that.

Back when I was thinking about designing something like this myself, I was planning to just put small notches to just barely accomodate the pins, that would help align the aluminium on top of the bezel, but it did not look like an easy job.
I do agree it would be fun taking off the plastic shield; Im not even sure what all would have to be removed in order to get to it. However, I think that something like this could probably complement gauge overlays very well, if it were colored correctly!

Maybe the T/A guys would have to swap to a Z28 bezel...
