That lake effect snow can make Nor'easters look like mere flurries.
OFFICIALLY winter has already started, as it runs Dec.1 through Feb.28. Only by its meterological definition does it start on the solstice.
and yes, even Mr. Webster does make mention of this:
Main Entry: win·ter Pronunciation: 'win-t&r Function: noun Etymology: Middle English, from Old English; akin to Old High German wintar winter and perhaps to Lithuanian vanduo water, Old English węter -- more at WATER Date: before 12th century 1 : the season between autumn and spring comprising in the northern hemisphere usually the months of December, January, and February or as reckoned astronomically extending from the December solstice to the March equinox 2 : the colder half of the year 3 : YEAR <happened many winters ago> 4 : a period of inactivity or decay

I didn't get as much as I thought after watching the news. Just a few miles from me (less than 30) they had 2 ft to 30 inches and even more. I was lucky! think we had about 18. I was in RI for the weekend. This is my deck when I got home.
I'm sending it all to Texas!! You can have it! Posts: 5946 | From: Litchfield, NH, USA | Registered: Feb 2000

Why don't yo move up here? Let's see how much you like it after you have to move it.I was a friend of ine and his 3 daughters. They we're all wound up when they saw the snow on the ground afetr we came out of a movie. They were bouncing off the walls in the car on the way home. My friend and I just sat there. One asks us, "Why are you guys not excited about the snow?" I looked over to my frined and said here's the difference. Kids play in it adults move it and sometimes have to drive in it. Oh..that salt that rusts out vehicles and having to wash the car when it below freezing outside.I hate snow! Some days I spend the better part of the day clearing the driveway and sidewalks. No fun at all especially when your toes and finger tips feel like they are going to break off. Give me warm weather any day.

Actually, I'm considering that.....I visited a friend in Chicago last year and absolutely fell in love with the city! I'm planning on visiting again this year. And yes, I know it sounds silly to many of youse guys up there, but I'm ready for some new challenges in my life right now.....
