Well its moving along.. Here is a pic of the engine partially assembled. There are still a lot of parts off at various platers, powder painters and machine shops but you get the general idea.. I found a place that will rebuild and chrome our alternators for only $85 total
Some of the engine goodies: Stage II MMS heads, 224 cam, fully ballanced assembly, ARP bolts (rods, heads, crank pully)
Some missing parts: blinged out Power Steering pump, chromed starter, blue head plate, yada yada

Thanks guys -- It helps the patience factor to see some progress
Think I should paint the intake or leave it black with the blue and chrome accents? I worry about painting it from a holding up standpoint and the fact that im a perfectionist.. opinions?

wait til January.. FASST, will be coming out with an aftermarket LS1/6 Intake ... more lower end torque and get this... it is white
Then again you might already know about this ...
What color were you thinking of, and how were yoy going to compensate for the rough texture of the intake... it would prevent the paint looking smooth Posts: 694 | From: Newport, RI (Middletown Technically) | Registered: Feb 2000

I like the intake black with the dark colored valve covers and pulleys. It's too bad the plastic intake can't be plated. I think it would look awesome in chrome.

Hey steve, I think a Glossy black would be quite a nice touch to the intake. IMO...but of course, no matter what you do, its gonna look killer!

Thats reeeeeeeel Puuuuuuurty! Seriously, it looks great. Do you have to fabricate your own engine and tranny mounts or does someone make a kit for that? When will the car be back from the body shop?

I do belive you have out done yourself this time, that is one pretty motor!! Can't wait to see the completed project at the next "Picnic". Remember...you said "test drive"
As for the intake, i think either the dark gray(?) of the valve covers or gloss black to match the pully's & water pump.

Awesome. I agtee with Doug. My friend has a 97 and coverted to coil packs. He fabricated a bracket for them on the back of the block. The coil packs are what make it look no so clean. Either way, it looks great!

The intake must go! You will just have to replace it...
But I'm sure you have some awsome Fuel Rail Cover ideas planned (or maybe no FRC's) so the intake will look cool with whatever you decide. That car is going to be !!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to see it all put together! (FYI - Look how awsome that engine looks with the Red Snap-On tool box accents The blue and gray combo is going to look ever so sweet on the car!)

i agree. and i just got a brochure in the mail today from Lingenfelter. nice full color one. seems to be showcasing their Vette products. but anyways, they have a picture of a "1997-2004 corvette camaro firebird LS1, LS6 intake cover" and its pretty neat lookin. they show it in gloss black but it also says it is available in 23 different colors. i cant find it on their website www.lingenfelter.com but i think you should definitely give them a call 260-724-2552 and ask about it. it looks pretty good. the brochure says the price is $199.95
The cover that Caddy came up for the motor on their Z06 powered CTS is unique in that it covers the top of the whole block including the intake manifold. I wonder how that might look on your engine.

I will checkout that Lingerfelter cover.. im planning on eventually doing either the Alum intake or maybe even a Magancharger.. For now the painted intake will do. Im thinking Silver(aluminum)
Yes, I will be running FRC's.. im going with custome ones that will be the smokey silver of the Z-stripes with blue script on them "Camaro LS1" or something similar.. hard to describe.
Maybe eventually I will move the coils but 1. I have too many other stuff to worry about first (ie. getting it on the road).. 2. I like FRC's since it gives you a place to have some artwork done.
I hope the have the car ready (90%) for events come March.. when is Super Chevy Pomona??

Here is a picture of my Silver painted intake.. I just used the same paint code as my car (13U).. Its got 2 base coat colors and 2 clear with sanding and etching primer before the paint. I wished I would have spent more time to get rid of all those little indented dots on the top but Oh well...

Im liking that
Thanks. Ya I got it sprayed and yes it was a pain to mask off but not too bad. So far after 10000 miles I have had not peeling or bubbling so far so automotive paint holds up just fine..
