Thinking about the ARE Stage 2 Series head and cam package. Anyone get something like this done thats got some feedback????????????????????????
Looking for quality of workmanship, results of upgrades and your overall opinion of the fellows in Canada. Talked with Wade today from Agostino and he was very nice on the phone. He explained the different options I had and what was probably best for what I wanted in the end.

You would be better off to go somewhere else, they have had some "administration" problems as of late from what I have been told. Might want to check out Texas Speed, Thunder Racing or MTI just to name a few shops. [Big Grin]

What ever you choose, do a lot of reading and comparing before you drop the cash.

I know 2 of the locals who've had it done there.
Rather than speak for them I can give you their
phone number, if you're serious and they can tell you their experiences directly.

I know several people who have had work done at ARE. I have had them look after some non-engine related work for me, and I have been very very happy with the work and the way I was treated. No complaints whatsoever.

One of the SSOA members has had his engine re-built by ARE. I will let him speak about it himself.

Myself, when the time comes for an engine re-build with some goodies, without any hesitation I'm taking it to ARE.

BTW, Wade is the owner of ARE.

Although I do not have ARE's Stage II pkg, (I have their Street Eliminator pkg) the work was done on my car 2 years ago. I would be happy to relate my experiences with them to you. First of all ARE is a major sponsor of our local club, Toronto F-body Motorsports. I have always been treated well and fairly at ARE. BTW, they also did my C5 brake upgrade, installed my SLP LT headers, Y-pipe and RT hi-flow cats as well as a custom tune and ported oil pump. (among other stuff). Outside of forgetting to refill the freon in my A/C, ARE did all the work right, the 1st time. The engine hasn't missed a beat in 2 years (and it spends a fair amount of time around its new 6500 rpm redline), and it passed the Ontario sniffer test in October with flying colours!
BTW, did you speak to Wade about their newly-designed, CNC machined 5.3 heads for the LS1? Apparently this setup is putting down some phenomenal numbers!
I'm the SSOA member who Bill referred to in his post. Rather than rebuild my stock engine back to factory specs, I went with ARE's suggestions after discussing with them what I wanted the car to do. I have not been disappointed in any respect with the result. I understand that in this business, you can't make everybody happy all of the time, but I believe that communicating clearly what your goals are to the tuner or engine builder is of prime importance, along with listening clearly to what he tells you.
Whether you go with ARE or not, ask questions, do your research, talk to others and listen carefully!
Good luck and have fun!!

Best regardSS,

Elie

Elie, Wade did talk about those heads and if I go with ARE, those heads will be included.

With your setup, what type of rear wheel horsepower do you have and what kind of 1/4 mile time and speeds are you running?

Also, what type of drag tire are guys running with there LS1's? If I get my horsepower into the 400's at the rear tire, I don't think my BFG Drag Radials will hook up. Any suggestions on wheel and tire size for slicks?

I have a 2002 35th LE with head and cam work (pending), SLP long tube headers, y-pipe, high flow cats, loud mouth exhaust, cold air box, smooth bellows and a 3.73 rear gear.

Just saw this and I am heading out - I have more input for you, but in the meantime, if you want to check out my dyno sheets, go to http://www.geocities.com/sselie
and click on the "Dyno Runs" link. Note where the car makes its maximum HP - the car is set up for road racing rather than drag racing.

What I wanted to say earlier, is that I'm in the 13.2 range at the track in the 108 mph range. I must tell you that I'm not really a drag racer (but I do pretty well in the brackets! [Big Grin] ),as I will not powershift the car to gain a few tenths. My granny-shifting technique has Wade in stitches when we're at the track. While having his back to the track, he has been known to identify me by the sound of my shifting while going down the track! [Eek!] He never fails to remind me that I make him look bad because with 367 RWHP, I should be well into the 12's! [Embarrassed]
As far as tires are concerned, I'm not your best source of info on this, as there's no way I'd even think about a tire on my car, with 4.10s and a stock rear end!
Once again, have fun!

Best rgardSS,

Elie
