Thompson was quite an innovator ...... 4 cyl and 2 cyl Pontiac dragsters, the 4 engined land speed record car ......... the all conquering blue SOHC Mustang flopper driven by Danny Ongais (and its red sister car driven by Pat Foster)
But not all his creations were successful ........ cases in point ..... the monocoque Mustang in '70, the titanium chassied Pinto, persistent development on the Boss 429 engine which amounted to zero ........... but you can't say this man didn't have an influence on early drag racing
