We need your help to get your Congressman to co-sponsor HR 3763. Congressman Jeff Miller (R-1-FL) has introduced HR 3763, the Military Survivor Benefits Improvement Act of 2004. Once enacted into law, this bill makes significant changes to the Survivor Benefit Program (SBP). SBP is an optional annuity program for military retirees. The Association has been seeking SBP reform for several years and believes Congressman Miller’ s Bill offers the best opportunity for passage. 245 Members of the House of Representatives already have co-sponsored this bill.
This measure would eliminate the current age 62 annuity reduction from 55 to 35 percent. The restoration from 35 to 55 percent would be phased in over a ten year period, beginning in October, 2005. The bill also includes an open enrollment period to allow participation for those who did not previously elect SBP coverage.
To assist us in gaining your Congressman’s co-sponsorship for this legislation, please go to the AFA website by clicking this link: http://capwiz.com/afa/issues/bills/?bill=5012656. Enter your ZIP code in the box provided and you will have an opportunity to send a pre-formatted letter about SBP or you can send your own letter.
Please take a minute now to assist the Association and all military retirees. Thank you!
