Ok, for those not aware of my Auburn nightmare here is a brief summary leading up to today:
- at 3,000 miles Brown and Brown rebuild the Auburn. Once rebuilt they put the wrong fluids in(unbeknownst to me at the time). - at approx 11,000 miles Auburn is leaking. Chapman replaces leaking seal and admittedly torques it improperly causing it to blow out less than a mile after leaving the dealership. - Chapman then refixes it only to torque it improperly again and while the service manager is driving the car to my work to deliver to me it blows out again and has to be towed back. - Chapman then re-refixes and puts the incorrect fluids in(again unbeknownst to me at the time). - Several thousand miles later the Auburn is chattering bad. I realized from a post on the old SLP board that it has been running the wrong fluids since Brown and Brown fixed it at 3,000 miles(you CAN'T use synthetic). I speak with the GM rep at the time, Mark Harris, who refuses to replace the Auburn and simply has Courtesy Chevy flush it out. After the service manager called me to get the part number for the correct fluids they put the correct Dino Oil in. - This past October and only several thousand miles later, it is leaking again. I attemp to get in contact with the GM rep again and find out that there is a new rep named John Joyce. It took from October until 1 week ago to make John understand that synthetic is not ok, and that the Auburn needs to be replaced(One of the people at SLP ripped him a new a-hole explaining the reasoning why). So finally a week ago Thoroughbred Chevy completed the work and put a whole new axle with Auburn on.
Then today, I am driving on the freeway in 6th at around 70mph and all the sudden the car made a weird hesitation. I downshifted to 5th and then back up to 6th and everything felt ok. Then about 100 yards later after we go over a slight bump all the sudden the car starts making this LOUD obnoxious grinding/rattling noise and I see a bunch of pieces fly off in my rear view mirror. I coast to a stop where at the end the rear wheels lock and we come to a stop. I open my door and look under the car and the driveshaft at the yoke is snapped off and hanging down, the yoke is completely gone, fluid is spilling everywhere and smoke is pouring out. I got the car towed back to Thoroughbred where they will look at it Monday morning.
I don't understand why these dealerships can't get the job done properly. Every single problem I have had thus far has been dealership caused. I am at wits end. I did not pay $40,000 to have this ridiculous krapp happening. I do not have time for it and if this is the way its going to be then I want out.
Scott - I sent you an e-mail about the rotors but have not heard back yet. Can we possibly have them fix the brakes properly when they attempt for a 7th time to fix the Auburn? Although this is only the 3rd time in the past 20,000 miles that the rotors have been warped, it would be nice if they could be fixed so I can maybe drive a few thousand more miles without troubles again. Sorry for the sarcastic tone but I think it is quite obvious I have been through hell and back with this car and all I want is what I paid for, nothing more(unless you want to give me a C6!)

Sounds like the u-joint bolts at the pinion came loose. Check the bottom of the car for other damage as well.

I would have them install a driveshaft loop when the fix it, just for the next time the jack up your drive train.
Dude, taht sucks. In my experience (no offense to Mr. Settlemire, he is an exception), most GM people are ignorant, stupid, and more interested in covering their own asses than in getting their job done.
Unfortunately, the last major problem I had with a dealership, i was only able to get it resolved when a friend of my fathers who used to be a vehicle development guy for the Cadillac Division came over to the dealership and straightened things out.
These people are another symptom of an all too common problem with car dealerships: People like us know more about our cars than the dealership "experts" who are fixing them. Good luck in getting it fixed, dude.

Exactly the same failure you described. Cruising down the highway at 65 MPH about 50 miles after the dealer repaired the leaking pinion.

That's a very good question: does Arizona (or whatever state you nought it in) have lemon laws? If so, it's starting to sound like you might be better off getting your money back on this vehicle.

UPDATE: The yoke is fine and is actually still attatched. It is the pinion that is sheared in half and shot everything back. They need to replace the entire Auburn(which was 1 week old) and assembly. Apparently GM is coming out to inspect the vehicle tommorrow and determine what caused this. WTF?
